Why don't many metal bands come through NO?

For a large tour run or festival.
Is it because of the low market we have?

Yeah dude. It would just be me and you there. But it upsets me too.

There are no metal festivals in New Orleans. Siberia books a lot of metal but that's a really small place. The HOB is too small for bands like LOG, Mastodon, Megadeth, etc. They book a lot of screamo bands, which is apparently what kids are calling metal these days.

This is puzzling to me. I grew up in New Orleans in the mid to late 1990s and was an active venue crawler in south Louisiana until about 2005. From my point of view, NOLA had tons of metal .... Down, EYEHATEGOD, Goatwhore, Crowbar, Soilent Green, amongst many, many others. Maybe the scene has changed, but in my day it was rad.

Its awful. High on Fire was here about a month ago at Siberia but Metal is on the decline I'm afraid.

Those bands all still exist and play New Orleans regularly, except Soilent Green. Those are all locals though. I think OP was asking about national touring bands.

As far as large scale metal festivals, mayhem is really the only big one left. It really only does amphitheaters which nola doesn't have. Like they said Hob and Siberia still have shows, but imo are not advertised well. I slipped upon a dillinger escape plan show may 6th at one eye Jacks. Not advertised well at all.

Because Satan is afraid of vampires.

I didn't even know High On Fire had played NO recently. I'd have been there if I had.
At least you get some shows down there. Baton Rouge gets jack shite.

frick, I'd be there. Bands used to come through, annoying that we have to hope for a decent band to be at some fest or if by chance someone will play one eyed jacks/house of blues etc

Goatwhore kicks off every once in a while. Loved the carving out album. Louisiana really needs more metal.

Metal and NO dont mesh very well as far as music preference demographics go.
Kind of the same thing in Alabama

That is true. New Orleans being a music city in general will attract bands of all sorts regardless of genre. But NO will always have its bread and butter. Which I think will keep a lot of bands like in that genre somewhat close.
