Guy loses both a chance at $1 million dollars and a car. When he had the puzzle already solved.

Article with videos.

First:
quote:

He had the chance to win $1 million, had the puzzle fully solved, and then lost because he pronounced Achilles like “A-chill-us.” Because of that mistake, the show decided not to give him the victory and instead, one of the other contestants who know the “mythological hero” got the chance to steal and did. (To win the full $1 million he would have had to overcome some other hurdles as well.)

The awkward pause after he mispronounces it.

Second:
quote:

Miraculously, Julian got a second chance later in the show, this time to win a car. He had the entire puzzle solved save for two letters and still couldn’t come up with “The World’s Fastest Man” even though he was told it was a “person.” With only the “m” and “n” missing, he guessed “c.”

I could see where he was thinking "World's Fastest Car" since he had the chance to win a car in that round, but it was noted that the category was "Person".

I didn't see it live. Was on the news this morning, and I couldn't stop laughing when they played the clip.

If he solved the Achilles one they should have given it to him.

Poor bastard. That show seems so easy, but if I got up there in front of the camera I would probably freeze up or say something stupid.

Reminds me of an episode a few years backThere was a woman on the show that was a teacher from Louisiana. The puzzle had the word "orchard" in it and she pronounced it as "oar-card" and lost a chance at ~$10k.

I think if you guess all of the letters correctly than you should win the puzzle. Maybe his accent is different? People pronounce shite funny all of the time. Clearly he was trying to say what was on the board.

You would think with that many people watching it, there would be a much larger emphasis on grammar and pronunciation in this country.

Is this because it normally comes on a time when people are eating dinner? I thought jeopardy normally came on during the late afternoon time slot. That could be why, but I get your point haha
