I believe you. But as to my original point... do you ever play with golfers who don't play strict rules?
If so, how do you avoid not offending them when they say 'just move your ball away from that tree...this game is tough enough.'

You're thinking too hard. All of us know who were playing with and what were playing for before we start. Not to mention it's an individual sport when handicapping so nbd

While I agree, I'll say that the golfers that have the ability to shoot 70 and below are far more likely to be playing usga rules IMO
This.
Once you've reached that skill level you aren't cheating. A hacker may cheat. But when a guy reaches a point of skill to break 70? They will always know they cheated to get to 69. So they will know they really didn't break 70.

Why the hell would you? Playing for money?
As was said, you are thinking too hard. If you aren't playing for cash and you are spouting USGA rules you will sound ridiculous.

FTR, I've literally never heard this said when someone has faced a challenging shot. Not to say it doesn't happen, but I doubt moving your ball 20 ft. is a common occurrence.
ETA: unless you're a 36 handicap, and usually in that case their is no knowledge of the rules anyway.

Well weave, looks like you got owned again. But by an old dude named Zach this time.

Yea. I mean if I'm playing a round with my buddies for practice. I'm not going to hit off a root or something. But if were playing a real round. Never heard this discussed.

I am not damaging my equipment off a root or tree. But if playing for cash or beers/lunch then I am.

Wrong. It's not about spouting rules. It's about playing by the rules when your partners are cheating. I have never chastised a playing partner for cheating. Never.
But when they see me refuse to improve my lie they feel guilty and get pissed off. "Why don't you just move your ball from under that tree limb, Zach?"
I could say "It's cheating." But instead...
"I'm going to get on my knees and to try to hit it with the toe of my putter to get it back into the fairway."
Has this never happened to you if you play strict rules when others in your party do not?

Play one round and you'll appreciate it. Last year for my buddy's bachelor party we played a round. I haven't played a round in about 15 years. First hole I shot a 7 haha. I now appreciate the sport much more.

You play with shitty people. Nothing more

Do most of you really putt everything out when playing with your buddies for money??
Posted on 4/13/14 at 4:15 pm to lsugolf1105
Yes, especially for money.
I make a practice of doing it because when I play in tournaments, I can't exactly rake it back

Damn. Tough group. We give putts in the leather even for money.

Hey Weave, go ahead and cheat. Almost everyone does. And that was my point. And those who disputed that point are looking like idiots on this thread. And if you would like to continue looking like an idiot keep disputing my point.

Well, the guys I usually play with are also tournament players, so it's mutual. It's not like we sit there hoping someone will miss a two foot putt.
