And how do you plan on getting behind that thing?
A hog charges and tries to hit you one or two times then retreats which allows you to catch him by the back legs. You can move out of his way pretty good because hogs typically won't keep chasing.
They charge and retreat and are more defensive.

But its a wild pig. It's not going to try and bite you like a dog would, but gore you with its tusks. And how do you plan on getting behind that thing?
I'm not claiming to be proficient at it, but I've seen it done. They aren't the most agile things. When he runs at you side step him and try to grab a back leg.
At worst, with a hog you get sliced open pretty good, but the hog isn't going to jump and latch on to your neck or face.

I've seen this fight played out on Hog hunts as a kid. Hog by TKO. No contest if dog is unarmored. Hog eviscerates the dog with a tusk slash to the gut. Pits are mean but hogs are dog killing machines.

Being I'm not as experienced with hog wrastling as a previous poster, I'm thinking pit bull.
However, I'd imagine if you've got some experience in taking down A hog without a high-powered rifle, then you'd probably take your chances with the pig.

Anyone that picks hog is a fricking idiot.
Pit all the way. You don't stand a chance against a big hog.

Assuming the catch dog has him by the snout. Otherwise he's gonna tear you a new a-hole.

I parked my car on the corner of the street last Friday. I was coming back to my car and there was a pit in the corner houses yard. The fence was like 4 feet tall and I was looking at the big ole pit. The dude snapped and jumped at me, I thought I was dead

Hogs aren't the crazed killers. They are defensive. They charge when you get to close to them but retreat when you move away.
The pit ain't retreating. Once he comes at you, its on.

No, actually I was going to do the fight against a pitbull or two wild feral full size tom cats, intent on killing you

No... I had a job while in college at a farm trapping hogs. I'd catch them in the trap, then inside the trap, catch them, throw them on their side, sit on their back hips, and cut their balls off.
We would then fatten them up and sell them $30 a pig for pig roasts.

In that case everyone would pick the cats. Its weird you mentioned feral hogs though because I haven't ever heard that term until Justified the other night and this thread was the second time I have ever heard it so I thought you must have watched it!

There is no way I would do that for $30!

I have some experience fighting big dogs, granted a bit playfully. Had a Bouvier growing up (military grade dog) and we'd wrestle and she'd softly bite me. I always waited for her to lunge at me and then grab her by the back of the neck and then its game over basically for the dog.
Never hog wrestled, so I'd take my chance with the pit. Those tusks scare me much more than a dog's teeth.

How big were said hogs?
100-200 lbs.
I'm telling ya'll hogs are as vicious as their made out to be.
They are defensive in nature and if given the option will run from you before fighting.

I was getting paid $10 per hour working at the farm. The owner found out I grew up trapping hogs so I handled that for him along with other work around the farm.
The hogs were a nuisance and that's just how we got rid of them.
