I have advised the charter boat industry to sue NOAA and the council every GD year for the last decade. The management is a complete fricking joke, and bunch of lobbyist for commercial interest making regulation with no scientific data what so ever.
Unfortunately, just like the with the Shark regulations the commercials struck first and the results are we get 11 days while they catch their quota.
It is time to act or you might as well just give up all offshore fisheries to commercial interest.
What I need right now are marine biologist that knowledgeable about the snapper fisheries willing to testify. (Probably retired)
(Someone like Dr Bob Shipp.)
It is time to end this bullshite once and for all.

Absolute bullshite. I normally don't think politics plays a role in limits of game, but this has become beyond ridiculous.

If we only have 11 days I will break the law. They can suck my dick!

You're going to sue NOAA for complying with a federal order to penalize recreational fishermen for exceeding last season's quota? How is that going to work?

Representative Bradley Byrne (AL-1) released the following statement regarding the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council Reef Fish Committee’s decision late yesterday to limit Red Snapper season to 11 days this summer.
Email the Louisiana Representatives and demand them to get behind this!

Byrne said: “The day the federal government places the well-being of fish over people, we know we have truly lost our way. An 11-day Red Snapper season will be devastating to our local fishermen and the communities dependent on this important industry for tourism and economic activity. This move highlights the fact that our regulatory system has become broken beyond repair, with the court finding underscoring the fact that the framework is falling apart at the seams.
“I have lost all faith in the federal government’s ability to carry out its regulatory responsibilities for Red Snapper in a fair and balanced way. It’s become clear that the federal government must be cut out of this process if we are to achieve any kind of workable solution. Using my position on the Natural Resources Committee, I am working with committee leadership and staff to find a solution that will return regulatory power back to state authorities that are able to incorporate common sense and on-the-ground experience into this process, since the federal government clearly cannot. I’ll keep fighting to ensure this gross mistake is not allowed to take root in the long term.”

I will be a law un-abiding citizen myself.
great quote of the article:

The whole process didn't sit well with Pausina, a long-time critic of the federal fish-counting formula known as the Marine Recreational Information Program.
"To be honest, I'm embarrassed that they'll talk two hours on whether we should have 11 days or 14 days," he said. "Who gives a (expletive)? Fourteen or 11? Are you kidding me?
"At this point, I just think it's comical. It's like going to buy a hamburger that's $1.50 or $1.75, and having a big discussion about it. I mean, really. Just buy the hamburger."

I agree with this

The 11 day season is a joke that would only let probably 90% of the recreational segment fish for four days since most offshore rec fisherman only have weekends available. If they are going to do a ridiculously short season like that it should be broken down into Sat/Sundays till the alloted days are accumulated. With an 11 day season there is no possible way that the recreational fish allotment will even be close to being filled as meager as it is already.

The government keeps spewing that they need to limit the amount of snapper because of population declines and overfishing. That is all well and good if it were true. Why is it that when I go offshore and fish for snapper every time I drop my line down I hook a snapper. If there was a population issue wouldn't you think it would be difficult to locate and catch them. Secondly they will limit the amount the recreational fisherman can catch but still allow the commercial fisherman to catch their share. I go into the supermarket and see these puny midget snapper in abundance. Makes me sick

Not sure if true but I just received a call from a very trusted source saying that Pausina told the feds to f-off and opened the season up 7 days a week in state waters.
