If it were released today, Where would the Exorcist rank among scariest movies?

Now, I've seen The Exorcist about 167 times, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT (sorry, couldn't help myself).
I think this movie was ruined for me because before I saw it for the first time when I was 15, every single adult in my life told me it was "the scariest movie ever made", it couldn't possibly live up to the hype.
I still think it's scary as hell, there are scenes in that movie that stay with you forever, but I can't say it's the scariest movie ever made. I really can't say it's even top 5 for me. What do you guys and gals think?

What do you think is scarier?

The Shining was scarier for me as a kid.

This is strictly opinion, but to me The Grudge was scarier. Audition fricked me up more than the Exorcist. I also considered Jaws to be more terrifying, but only when I went swimming.

I didnt find audition scary, more so just disgusting and fricked up. I would put the ring on that list, the Ring fricked me up when i was younger.

Sinister was scarier than the Exorcist in my opinion. Even the Conjuring was scarier.

Probably will be the next horror movie classic to get a reboot.
The original is scary but not the scariest of all time, but its top 5 for sure

I've actually never seen it. People tell me if you've never seen it and grew up watching modern horror movies you'll say big deal and that it had to be watched back in the day for it to really mess with you.

I watched it for the first time a few years ago and didn't think it was very scary at all.
I assume it just did't hold up over time with the advancement in technology. I have no doubt it was scary when it came out.

Curse of the Demon (1958, Dana Andrews) scared the everloving crap out of me when I first saw it in the late 60s).
I have to admit Paranormal Activity was mildly scary, as was Aliens and The Thing.

I really liked The Exorcist. If it was released today, it would be popular but nothing special.
It'd seem run of the mill, but that's only because so many movies that came after it emulated it.

There is no such thing as scary movies...they are all tame

This.
Also, I don't know if The Exorcist is as much scary as it is disturbing to me.
It's a great flick though.

It will always be #1 in my book

It wouldn't rank high compared to some recent movies but The Exorcist blew people's minds in 1973.
Here is a cool video showing people freaking out after watching the movie during its first theatrical release. LINK
I don't think there will ever be a horror movie that will get reactions like that from today's audiences

My girlfriend and I love scary movies. We try and watch every one that we see. We both saw bits and pieces of it growing up. Well long story short we tried watching this other day and couldn't finish it. It was terrible. I understand why it was scary to a lot of people because back then it was probably all new stuff and that kind of movie was different. Now we have better graphics and more ways to scare you. Demonic possesion is only kind of movies that usually scare us.

In all seriousness...Can someone recommend a movie to me that is actually scary or unnerving. I don't believe in ghosts or the devil, and zombies don't do it for me either.
I want a movie that leaves me a little mindfricked.
The last movie I saw that made me feel unnerved was "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer". Pretty chilling, just because Serial Killers are a real thing, not made up ghost shite
