re: Safety in early rounds?

We need evolution in our passing game ie elite recievers. This offense would be absolutely insane with them.

Of course he is.
Honestly, I don't know that a rookie WR not named Watkins or Evans is going to be a sure-fire fix at the position. In fact, no one knows.
I also think that it's bloody HILARIOUS that a couple seasons ago, many on this board (I think LE included) complained about the front office's decision to draft Meachem in the first round and the groupthink belief was that first round WRs were a waste. Now suddenly these guys want a first round WR, even at the expense of filling another need.

Sure.
Now which elite receivers would you draft? Are you willing to trade up to get Watkins or Evans?

I wouldn't rule out double dipping at WR in this draft. If we draft one, that helps us out this season, but there's a decent chance that we have to cut Colston in 2015. That puts us in the same position next offseason, and WR's typically take until year 3 to get going. Would like to use an early pick on a stud and land a guy like Abbrederis or Josh Huff in the 3rd or 4th round.
I still want Bruce Ellington in the mid rounds. He doesn't have the blazing speed some on here want but he doesn't seem to have a problem getting open either. Might be too small to play on the outside all the time but I think of him as a Lance Moore type of WR, only with more athleticism.
I don't know about Benjamin in the 1st round. He seems like a WR who is still raw. Sure, he has a lot of upside but if you're going to take one in the 1st round, you'd like him to be more polished.
Lee could be interesting. His 40 time might not be that great but he seems to play fast.

I don't need to take one right now.

Not no but hell no. This draft is too deep at receiver & draft picks in this draft are too valuable. Not only that, the organization will need all their future picks when the time comes to make tough decisions with some of the high price veterans moving forward. The team is still feeling the effects of losing back to back 2nd rounders from the bounty crap. No way, no how.
I wouldn't be surprised to see to an entire offensive heavy draft. At this point, the defense is in much better shape the offense.
I wouldn't be shocked to see 2 receivers taken, an explosive satellite type back like Dri Archer or De'Anthony Thomas & a center preferably Weston Richburg out of Colorado State. This WR class is so deep that I don't have a preference because I feel that there are several who would excel in a Sean Payton run offense.

So it looks like we agree overall and are arguing over minutia.

Or it could be because we have one of, if not the best, pass catching TEs ever, along with two of the best pass catching HBs ever.
You are creating a false scenario to suit your argument.
Ok, without talking out of both sides of your mouth, can you answer these 3 questions:
1)Did our RBs catch 145 balls combined because it was a necessity, or a luxury?
2)Did forcing the ball to Jimmy Graham cost us some turnovers, and possibly a few games?
3What kept our WR's from being as a effective as they were in years past? Was it because we had a great TE and the 2 "best" pass catching HB's ever?
Posted on 4/6/14 at 5:55 pm to Lester Earl
we need multiple WRs not just one

Everyone agrees about what should be done, but the difference between sides is semantic.

The only thing I really disagreed with was the fact you tried to make it seem like due to the offense putting up nice passing yardage, that everything was ok at receiver. Besides that, we seem to be on the same page.

Answer yes or no:
Our WR production was down in 2013

We'll likely bring in a veteran and draft one, as well have some UDFA vie for a roster spot.
We dont need a sure fire fix in 2014.. We just need a weapon that in the future can develop into a WR1/WR2 type.
However,, by sheer numbers alone, there will be several WRs in this class that makes an impact as a rookie. Our offense is as good as any.

And I'm not going to fall into your "either or" questions because all of those deserve multifaceted answers.
For someone who is smart you sure do see things as needing to be black or white. Open your eyes and see the world is full of grays.

at this point i'm just saying the same shite I've said before.
came by to give Ellington another endorsement. The Saints won't pick him though. I can't remember the last time I guessed right on who the Saints would draft. Or the last time they drafted someone who I wanted them to.
a few years ago, I wanted Randall Cobb b/c Lance Moore was a FA I think... or was he a restricted FA? Don't know. Anyways... didn't happen.
wanted Alec Olgetree last year. Didn't happen.
I like to pick out favorites though to kill time as the draft approaches though.
this year Ellington is the guy. Get him in the 3rd round round!!!!!!!!!!!
not gonna happen.

You originally stated that our passing game wasn't in good shape.
You later refined it to the WR production when you started getting destroyed with facts that did not support your argument.
No one disagrees with our issues at WR. That's why you're creating a false argument. What we're saying is that WR is AMONG other positions of need, and if we don't draft one in the first round it's not the end of the world.
In short, do you even nuance, bro?

OK, and again, no one is disputing that.

Maybe we called more short passes to our backs because our line was complete shite for half of the season and didn't give Brees or the WRs any time?
Maybe that's the reason our HBs production was up?
