The bottom line is that there is NO WAY to pay for the exponential health care requirements for an indulgent and undisciplined populous...who CAN'T OR WON'T PAY for their own indulgence. It is weak people, who have the freedom to live irresponsibly that is causing the economic problem here. The Prog idea is to force the strong/responsible folk to pay for the (many times) irresponsible/immoral freedoms of choice of the weak.

America don't blow. The silent majority still exists and one day will awaken and bitch slap all the liberal douche pansies into submission. We are a country of immigrants (legal) that ventured out to make it on their own. No handouts. Just hard work and determination without a ruling aristocracy to keep us down. Of my great grandparents. More than half were first generation immigrants that came here with nothing. I wasn't raised to bitch about what this country owed me. I was raised to make my on destiny, kick arse, and take names. 'murica...

big pharma incents docs to write prescriptions
I don't agree with most of the essay. But I think he's spot on with this prescription stuff.
I've lived in a few different spots, and traveled pretty extensively... I've never seen people eat prescription drugs like Americans. Whether or not docs are being incentivized, I don't know. It certainly feels like it. Just about every Hollywood death revolves around pill collections that could make junkies blush. And these people are thrust out into the public limelight as our heroes.
As for regular folk, how many people are prescribed to Ritalin and Xanax, with a dose of Ambien at bed time? My father goes to AA meetings, and tells me that a hefty handful of his compatriots are on similar cocktail, some kind of adult ADHD and social anxiety combination. Whatever the excuse to make getting bent a shameless exercise, I suppose.
What's equally bizarre is that in America recreational drug use carries such stiff penalties (though weed is changing rapidly).

If you're serious about the aristocracy, ask why the Republicans have put up a legacy candidate for President every election since 1988, except for 1996 (the most inconsequential Republican candidate during that time, btw).
That's 6 of the last 7, and 4 for the last 4, for those keeping home at score. So yadda yadda kick *ss, just don't hope to become President.

I will match criticisms of Islam toe to toe with that crazy guy who used to post here and was apparently obsessed with the subject....
But this is ridiculous. France takes its secularism far, far more seriously than Americans. Minaret bans in Switzerland, circumcision bans, halal meat bans, etc.
Will be interesting to watch the approaching sh*tstorm over there. But people ready to concede Europe in the time it takes to rear a snot-nosed teenager... What we need to do is discredit Saudi Arabia and the Salafism it exports. But that won't happen as long as we suck its teat for oil and are occupied unseating secular dictators for them.

Sure, we've got problems in our country...but it's still the best damn country on the planet and if you don't agree get the hell out!

America doesn't 'blow' its current leaders do though....

Your argument is that a room full of Ambulance Chasers earnestly state in a very earnest way that Ambulance Chasing has virtually nothing to do with healthcare costs. They are so earnest in fact, that even someone 'skeptical' as you might otherwise be swayed by such sincere earnestness. Great! You (and they) tend to quote studies offered by lawyers, and legal friendly organizations as supportive of minimal impact of tort. Yet while you're happy to criticize US Healthcare costs as >2-fold other countries like Britain, you ignore the fact that per capita direct costs of US HC Tort exceeds Britain's 60-fold. Average UK settlement is 1/10th that of the US, and Brits are 6X less likely to sue. So while 2X is terrible, you'd have it that 60X is not. And as eye opening as the 60-fold difference is, it ignores ignore the much, MUCH LARGER dynamic costs of tort. Not clear as to WTF dynamic costs of tort references? Let's consider some examples: Take a wild guess why the US is the only country in the world in which CAT Scans are routinely obtained prior to appendectomy. Take a guess as to why US C-Section rates are 300% - 600% higher than international recs. The costs of just those two medical examples (even without incorporating any direct medical lawsuit costs) outstrip the entire all-encompassing tort impact claimed by virtually any legally funded/research/study/propaganda out there. Of course, those examples are but a scratch of the service. As we are talking about the same US medical tort industry which falsely sued the US silicon breast implant manufactures into insolvency, would you like to address the impact of tort on cost of other implants . . . like the hip implant prosthetics you earlier alluded to? Or on medical equipment? Or on pharmaceuticals? Little impact, if at all, correct? At least that's what your room full of personal injury lawyers would claim.
Triangle choke = TAPOUT!

I saw a bumper sticker that sums it up nicely: The measure of the quality of a nation is determined by the number of people who want to enter vs the number who want to leave.
Posted on 4/6/14 at 10:24 am to davesdawgs
I disagree with that. Tons of people want to get into Oil Rich Arab emirates. That doesn't mean they're quality nations.
