Just out of curiosity, what "rights" were violated in this situation?

And he did do something that warranted losing a job. His opinion, right or wrong, turned a large group of consumers against the company.

Maybe they shouldn't be offended so easily.
I can't blame the company, but don't have much sympathy for the complainers. But, it's their right to be offended and pressure companies to make a change.

None.
A private company should be able to hire and fire who they choose, correct?

he wasnt fired, he resigned. Now, at that level often times its the same thing. But his exit was publicly discussed as his decision.

At those levels, it's a negotiated exit.

usually. except for mark hurd at HP. That was a firing.

The whole idea of tolerance is to allow people to freely speak their mind without retribution.
It is?
I thought it just meant tolerating something, as in "putting up with" it. Hell, I don't even think "tolerance" is the same thing as "liking something." Just because you're tolerant of something doesn't mean you approve or like something.

Exactly what I just said.

This isn't about a product whether it rises or fails on it's merit.
This is hounding someone because of his personal beliefs.
Those aren't mutually exclusive ideas.
Well, the "product" part at least. Take that out and replace it with "organization" or "company." Some people don't want to do business with a company that they don't agree with politically or socially. They're free to make that choice. If a company feels that they need to get rid of someone who is hurting their image because of his/her beliefs, that's their prerogative.
Let the market (i.e., buyers and sellers) figure it out. If Mozilla fricked up by firing this guy, they'll know soon enough.

Hey, I agree, but that's not something that Mozilla can fix. They make the decisions they do based on the market they're in and the people who participate in that market.

And that's how authoritarian systems come into being.
You don't think something like this could come up and bite you in the rear someday?
But who's going to support your rights, if they've already been silenced?
I don't spend my time swinging at windmills. I do pretty much what I want to do within reason, so I don't think my rights have been infringed on. I believe that we all pretty much are responsible for our perceptions of others' actions. I just don't spend any time on issues that I have little or no control over.

You have your head in the sand.
Here is a quote for you....
"Just because you do not take an interest in politics doesn’t mean politics won’t take an interest in you"….Pericles 430 BC
The govt is already screwing you over and you don't realize it. Take a look at your check stub and compare 'gross pay' with 'net pay.'
Of course, you could be on welfare. I don't know. But history shows that liberties are given up at an incremental rate so that you don't feel the pain.

Really? Because I pay taxes to numerous levels of government, I'm screwed? I suppose that if you consider every dollar in taxes a wasted dollar, then you would be right. But I don't look at it that way. Is there govt waste? Certainly. Am I going to commiserate over it? Hell no. After taking all the deductions that I can, I think I have a pretty good deal considering my income and tax bracket

I assure you that I am not on welfare and receive no form of entitlement. The pain is self-inflicted. You always have a choice in how you view things. You don't have to be a victim. I can't think of one area of my life that is significantly affected by the perceived loss of liberty.

Because a private donation he made to a perfectly legal endeavour was leaked, that is grounds for being forced out?
So if someone exercises their 1st Amendment Right, and the employer doesn't agree with that position(which was done privately, and was if I remember, leaked, which is illegal) that employee is subject to termination?
Do you guys ever think about what you're posting?
