You sound like one of those guys who listens to Cocaine and Wonderful Tonight and think "this guy isn't anything special".
He also thinks Clapton is an amazing songwriter, so he probably thinks those two songs are representative of "amazing" songwriting.
And yes I know Cocaine is by JJ Cale (he probably doesnt, though)
I have (on vinyl)
-Fresh Cream
-Disraeli Gears
-Wheels of Fire
-Goodbye
-Eric Clapton
-461 Ocean Blvd
-Slowhand
-Journeyman
-From the Cradle
Im familiar with his catalog. Ive been playing guitar for over 20 yrs and intructing for about 7 now. It's just my opinion, but he is a mediocre blues guitarist. I still love alot of his music and respect everything he's been associated with. I appreciate you assuming my idiocy when it comes to music though.
***forgot about Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs which we've been listening to non-stop the last few wks while remodeling the house.

Get Derek & the Dominos Live at the Fillmore to hear Clapton at the height of his prowess

Clapton is great, there is no denying that. I can't not have the guy in my top 10. I don't care for listening to his albums, but I love listening/watching his live stuff.
I feel like Buddy Guy is often underrated in history.
From an Interview with Buddy:
He also mentioned how he wishes he could play with Jimmy Page. I think that would be pretty fricking cool.
Took the girl with me to see him about a month ago, we were by far the youngest people there , but it was amazing. What he is able to do at his age is so ridiculous, especially vocal wise. As good of an entertainer as I've ever seen. Even she, who had heard maybe a song or two, was blown away by him. I can only imagine what he was like in his younger days.

Eric Clapton calls you the greatest guitar player alive. Who do you think is the greatest?
I think Eric and B.B. King are the greatest. B.B. is the best ever. He taught us all everything we knew. It's nice of Eric to say that, but I still have to go out and prove that I can play a few licks. I don't take that for granted. Hell, if Eric says that I am the greatest guitar player ever, then maybe I am. That's just like saying you're the best boxer in the world or saying you're the best baseball player in the world.

quote:Eric Clapton would tell you himself that Hendrix was far and away more creative and skillful. Hendrix is the GOAT when it comes to electrified rock/blues guitar playing. Top guitarist of all time? That's a bit broader argument..
Hendrix > Clapton for innovation.
Clapton > Hendrix for skill.

Of course he would. Although he was very selfish, if you know anything about Clapton, you would no he has always been insecure. Never thought he was good enough. shite, for years he had to play with his back to the audience.

Page is a truly great guitar player who has been a huge influence on the music scene.
I never said he wasn't. However, he is not in the top 5 of all time.
What I posted is from an on-line blog and is not my opinion. If you refer to my first post, I said "Here is some food for thought . . ." .

Although I like Paige, he is not on my short list. If he sang while playing, he would be.
Many factors go into the GOAT. Technical abilities, studio work, free time, longevity, vocals, writing music, innovative. The best has to have them all....Slowhand does.
