I'm disappointed in how many people fall for this crap. I don't understand how people use bogus websites as their source that in themselves use other bogus websites as their source. Its like your creating your own reality to satisfy you confirmation biased.
Like I said, as soon as I saw the source my bullshite alarm went off. I didn't have time to refute it but I trusted that the politard board was on the case.
Made for some good entertainment for a while though.

Yep, liberal interpolation of the 1st Amendment. Where we fricked up is allowing liberal progressives to take control of nearly every form of education/communication. It's going to be a long road back to sanity.

It amazes me how many people here have now idea what common core is.
It isn't curriculum it is more like a pacing guide defining what skills you should have when in your K-12 education.
People's hatred of public education must be clouding their vision because in most cases here poster are more informed on the issues.

Here's the full relevant text from the textbook, "The Americans", which I am absolutely certain the OP didn't even think about looking up himself because that would take effort:
Do you see the bold underlined part? Its pretty clear to all but the mathematically challenged that the textbook is referring to the 2nd amendment - being part of the first 8 - as protecting a PERSONAL liberty. Given that context, its abundantly clear that " a militia of citizen-soldiers" includes every single one of us. This is consistent with the Founder's belief.
This is on page 70, BTW. I noticed neither you nor the moronic blogger you linked to bothered to let us in on that information - its almost as if the blogger didn't want anyone to check his claims out! Imagine that!!!
Tell you what, I'll make it even easier for you and provide a direct link.
LINK
Just to reiterate, the book says:
The first eight amendments spell out the personal liberties the states had requested.
As for Bryant Middle School who gives a frick? There are shitty teachers everywhere, that's what you get when you pay teachers shite.

The First Amendment guarantees citizens’ rights to freedom of religion, speech, the press, and political activity. According to the Second and Third Amendments, the government cannot deny citizens the right to bear arms as members of a militia of citizen-soldiers, nor can the government house troops in private homes in peacetime.

1. I think the 'revised bill of rights' exercise looks awesome.
2. It's not Common Core, it's an AP prep exercise. The worst thing about about common core is now every weird anecdote about how a course was taught will now be blamed on Common Core, as if everything up to this point in history has been taught perfectly.
It's like a derp magnet.

Perhaps I'm misinterpreting the Bryant assignment, but it reads like that task force is just a hypothetical mechanism for the project. It's not saying the BOR is outdated, just for the hypothetical of the project.
Seems like a decent assignment to get kids to ponder their rights and what other rights may be needed.
It could of course also be the liberal boogeyman...

Somewhat true.

There's no denying education has and is continuing down the path of indoctrination. And it doesn't stop with grade school. It's so ingrained, that professors shout down, steal and attack those with conservative views on campuses now. There's reasons there is so much animosity towards those making the choices for what is taught to children now.

Or it could be, that subtle changes in the way children are taught to think, is what progressives are doing. Much like Holder saying 20 yrs ago, that children needed to be brainwashed on how they thought about guns.
Exercises in thought is fine. Teaching Constitutional Rights and why they are in the Constitution, to today's political dogma, rather than why they are there is a whole nother thing.

I agree 100% however I stick to my contention that this is not new. Teachers have always inserted their personal beliefs into their teaching, often against written policy.

I don't disagree with that. But being in the written word, it's likely to stick with kids more as fact. When, in fact, it's not.

While you're logically correct, the implicit construction of the statement is pretty clear, ie, that the right only applies to citizens acting in a militia. I can't believe this was a mere oversight. It would have been easy, even easier, to make it more clear/correct.

Nah, it's not new. I am in my mid 30's and I remember being taught that the Soviet bread lines weren't due to shortages but because the store sold the most popular bread- it went along with the " communism is good in theory " discussion.

Expanding on the CC’s cursory references to interpretation, primary and secondary sources, and the use of evidence, teachers can help their students recognize the importance of identifying the author, intended audience, and context in which these sources were created.
This is what ALL education should entail. ALWAYS....ALWAYS consider the source and what agenda they might have. I never was one that was big on memorizing dates. And I got a minor in history just because I enjoyed the subject. My roommate at the time is now a PhD historian.
Its up to parents to monitor what content is being taught.
