Why stealing the Malaysian airplane makes no sense...

1. Where are they going to land it? Once they go over land, they are picked up on radar. So the only possible way they could have landed in another country is if that country let them.
2. What happens now? What could they possibly do with that airplane? If they tried to use it for terrorism, it would be picked up by radar. So how would they get away with it?
So the idea that they landed the plane to be used later for terrorism makes no sense to me...

Apparently, about 9 days ago, it was NOT picked up by radar.

so the US could be in danger
I doubt that

The idea of storing it for later seems unlikely to me, too. But maybe that's because it's so horrifying.
My gut is telling me that Uighur separatists hijacked the plane, possibly with the help of a 'flipped' co-pilot, and took it into China or near the Kyrgyzstan border for a prisoner/hostage swap. Or were planning a 9/11 style attack on a Chinese city which failed. China either quashed the attempt, shot it down, it crashed accidentally, negotiated already and is waiting to announce to the world (that seems realllly unlikely), etc.
Or it was a crazy/lone wolf solo pilot or co-pilot kind of deal, either plain ole suicide or some kind of political statement wrt to the jailed opposition leader.
(From what I've read, the pilot seems like a good dude and quite principled, but frustrated with the state of politics in his country. That can apply to about half of America, too. I don't think he's involved unless it's related to his mental health. I've not really dug deeply though.)

Didn't Obama pay some Carribean island govt $20 mil or so to take in some Uighurs instead of returning them to China to face trial?

Maybe to you...
The plane flew for over 7 hours. This is one of the only facts we actually know.
ETA: if the plane flew in the northern corridor then there are about 10 countries this plane could be in.

I don't think Obama has that kind of money, no matter what his books sold.
I do know that the Tsarnaevs immigrated to America under the GWB administration to get away from big, bad Russia. These guys were kids, too. Who knows how many future Jokers we let into the country in order to jab at Putin.

Flying under 5,000 feet, radar appears useless. There are multiple locations that bird could have landed and multiple people who would want it.

I'd never thought I'd see the day after that infamous Tuesday someone would actually ask this question.
It's like it never happened.

It had tons of gold in it. They landed on a dry lake bed somewhere and cut the local politicians in on the loot. All the passengers are still alive and will be set free when the hijackers make their getaway.
That's my hopeful scenario anyway.

flying over countries will be different than open water

It has two nuclear warheads

More than likely the plane is now a submarine. Back to topic, I just don't see how a plane that big can transverse even part of the globe where land is involved without being detected. Might not be identified but it would be detected.
Of course that brings up the next big question if it can.

If the transponder is off, pretty much only military will see it.

Well. To be fair. I don't think an unidentified plane would have a great deal of luck traveling into U.S. airspace from a long distance away. It was helpful to them on 9-11 that the planes didn't have to be suspicious for very long.
Where would one fly TO the U.S. FROM that would allow for this now?
But. That said. I can totally see them planning to make use of the plane in some way other than hitting the U.S.

I never said it had to be an attack on the USA.
Just stating its possible use is obvious.

Honest question. You're saying that civilian control towers with radar couldn't pick up a blip on a screen if the plane doesn't have it's transponder on?
