I know, and I said it was the first episode so maybe it was relevant to show a bit of where science of the cosmos began to break through?
If they continue on this kind of vibe throughout the series then I think the observation that this could be an atheistic rant is valid, but off one episode I don't see anything wrong with it.

To be honest I did not see it as bashing religion at all.
Then again, I've never really understood why some segments of "religious" people are so threatened by concepts like evolution and, before that, a non earth-centered view of the universe.
Unless someone literally believes the 6,000 year thing, I don't see evolution as threatening religious beliefs. Nor do I see how a non earth centered view of things did.

The irony is that the churches were the opinion molders of their day, and they kept up the narrative that the king divinely ruled. Now intellectuals and academia have that position, and they sunshine pump current governments while they keep them gainfully employed.

I haven't seen the show. How is it an atheist rant? do they bring up religion?
NDgT said basically that evolution is a fact, and thus its pissed off alot of morons.

I have seen videos where he was asked directly if he was an atheist and he basically said that he doesn't consider himself anything like that. He isn't religious, but he just doesn't think about it. None of that matters to him. All he cares about is the advancement of science.
If anyone watched last night's episode and got offended from a religious perspective, it's because they choose not to believe in evolution. He did bring up a few topics that Intelligent Design proponents use as an argument against evolution, but it was needed. I have heard the argument that the eye is a clear indication of a designer too many times. The show shot that notion down with a very in depth and interesting segment. But he never said ID was a religious opinion or anything, just that ID was wrong. If anyone is offended by NdT looking in the camera and saying that evolution is a fact, then they just have their head in the sand.

I find it hilarious, and quite sad, that it is being reported that several local stations across the south edited this part out of last nights episode

A Fox affiliate in Oklahoma happened to accidentally play their news promo during the 10 seconds Cosmos mentioned evolution in the first episode.
The adults out there that deny evolution are a lost caused, but at least give the kids a chance.

I don't understand why people can't just open their minds to things they might not understand. That doesn't mean you have to fall for anything you don't agree with hook line and sinker, but just listen to it and learn.
That's just me.
That's just me.

Believe it or not, it wasn't the evolution comment.
In fact, I'm a Christian who 100 percent embraces evolution. I think evolution is God's tool to further species.
However, the show is trying WAY too hard to take subtle jabs at the beliefs of many people of faith, regardless of whether their beliefs are right or wrong.
If the show is about science and the cosmos, do not include religion bashing. It's just unnecessary.
MacFarlane has too much influence on this one. He's ruining what could be a great show.

I'm a person of faith and I didn't see any jabs taken at me.

Please don't take this questions as a bashing or anything. As a Catholic growing up, this question never occurred to me, but since becoming an atheist, I've wanted to know what a believer thinks. Anyway, if you believe in evolution and are a Christian, does that mean that you don't believe in "The Fall" or original sin? If so, then what was Jesus saving us all from? It's entirely possible that I am not thinking of the full picture created in the New Testament.

A lot of my friends are theistic evolutionist.

I kind of don't take the stories in the Bible literally. I never have. Am I supposed to? I believe Jesus was real, a real man, but do I believe he walked on water? Do I have to? I think the point of Jesus was to teach us the way of living. How to respect others, be charitable, be good.
I could be way off base and that might be getting off topic.
