Unfortunately I don't stray far from the tacos and pupusas. The enchiladas are really good and I've heard good things about the soups just haven't pulled the trigger.

For the record, I just passed that Taco Tico. It's still open, but there's a big "For Lease" sign on the front. Ironically, there are smaller signs advertising Shrimp Quesadillas for a "limited time only". CuCo's looks closed, too.

I think the grocery store is expanding over by that Cucos.
I hope the kennerbrah Taco Tico is safe.

Veterans lease rates are hitting $40+ SF right now for places of this size.
The stores here are owned by a local franchisee. I believe the master franchisor may have not been paying sales tax on stores that he owned out of state (NOT the franchisee here in Metairie). This could also hurt the local operations but I hope not. Taco Tico is an institution.

I ate there last Wednesday and it was not good. Four kids, myself and the wife. The place was in very bad shape, and I did see the for lease sign. Very sad,I ate a lot of forty nine cent tacos back in the day. Glad I got to go in one last time.

My wife got a taco and chips and cheese before the Endymion extravaganza. First time at taco tico and she was a fan. Me and my old man would get enchiladas. I sure miss that place. Wish Baton Rouidge would get one and a rally's too

Just went by to see for myself. The KB location looks to be safe as I did not see any for lease signs out front. The Metry store is a goner
Sign is already down however the marquee still has Taco Tico specials in it. For lease sign on the building. Wasn't this building built to be a Taco Tico? Seems like the franchiser would own the building.

Think they are now closed for good?

Not sure if they are closed now or not. Like I said the sign was down and the for lease sign was on the building. Not sure if this is what previous posters saw while still open. Might go for lunch later in the week.

As I said above, I've been going there for over 45 years. Didn't know what a taco was first time I ate there. At that time it was very small. It had wooden tables you could carve your name into - kinda like Bud's Broiler.
After a few years, the building was expanded towards Veterans and more than doubled the size. The owner told me the first building originally housed a burger stand.

It's true. Increase in rent is the reason. However they have no clue when the closing will take place. Kennerbrah location is not going anywhere.
Might be my last meal here.

This and it sucked big time. Shut down 5 stores that I know of. I and many more were like Stadium Rat, been going there for 40+ years. 3/$1 tacos were the titties. I would get $10 or $20 worth and pass around to the baseball team back in the day when the kids played youth ball.
Man I miss that place and hate that fricker for messing it up. Open one day, and a sign on the door the next.
