i don't really think the words are what have the "effect," here. instead, me thinks that the entire student section shouting a phrase in unison at the other team is an act of intimidation, regardless of the particular words. that's what's exciting, that's what anyone would key in on.

I don't think anyone argues that it negatively affect recruits, but the parents (mothers) of recruits would be with them in the stands or on the sideline.

When you see them dancing and laughing at it you realize they're 18 and find it hilarious. STTDB is a tradition/recruiting tool.
