How long does it take to recover? Can you return to work within a few days? I'm not interested in wasting a week of vacation for something like that
If you get LASIK early enough in the day, you could feasibly be at work the same afternoon. It's that fricking quick. It takes a while for a full recovery, like dry eyes and seeing halos everywhere, but it's probably the surgery that has the least recovery time.

Does your Rx have to be stable long enough to do it? I don't go to the eye doctor regularly. I wait until they won't give me any contacts because they say its been too long. Usually about every 2-3 years and my Rx has changed every time I go
contacts make your eyes change shape in order to help you see. They will ask you to not wear contacts for a few months before they can perform the surgery. Besides that, I did it at 21 so the stability thing Im not sure about but I doubt mine were "stable". The worse your eyes are, the more you squint and struggle which actually hurts your eyes. Im sure mine are getting worse, but I don't have to strain so they are keeping much better than they would have before.

I want to get it ASAP, but I'm still in college and can't afford
How does insurance cover this? Do they treat it as a luxury?

I know a few people who have had it done. They all have had to have it redone. One fella still has to wear reading glasses. That's why I haven't had it .
I don't know a single person who has had to get theirs redone, and LASIK doesn't correct presbyopia anyway (which is when you need reading glasses). That's a problem with the lens not being able to focus, and has nothing to do with the cornea, which is all LASIK focuses on.

I had it twice. Best decision ever.

my insurance did not cover it. The doctor allowed me to pay in installments.

Sadly, it doesn't. It's all coming out of your own pocket.

Installments would actually help me out big time

Like I said my moms is going to have to be redone. Her vision is the slightly better than before. Its becoming a pain in the arse for her because she has to get new contacts and cant have the procedure done again for 3 months.

I'm not saying its unheard of, just a bit rarer for anyone getting it redone these days. Ophthalmologists did a bit of trial and error at the start of it a few years ago, to where that's where most of the repeat patients are coming from.

As stated in a previous thread, IWH Dr. Woo.

I had the old school "RK" (with a knife) surgery on mine back in '93. One of the best things I ever did. Would not hesitate to do LASIK. 20+ years of no glasses/contacts has been wonderful!
Posted on 3/4/14 at 1:13 pm to malvin
I did it about 10 years ago for around $2000 total. Never regretted it. I was near-sighted and needed glasses or contacts. Had the surgery and only need reading glasses unless I can hold a book far enough away.
I recommend the surgery. Greatly increased my joy in hunting/fishing.

$1500. Dr. Singer in Metarie. Worth every penny. I see 20/13 now.

Dr. Faye Woo did my RK way back when.

I was VERY fortunate with this. Somehow, the RK surgery was listed as out-patient, covered 100% on our new insurance policy. This was discovered during a company wide "bitch session" about our new insurance company. The insurance rep told us that was a mistake and it wouldn't be covered (nobody does). Well, a couple of folks put it to the test... I think everyone in my office that wore glasses had it done and never paid a penny!!!
Knowing what I know now, I'd still pay 5K if that's what it cost

I would check with your doctor. I had to put my surgury off for 6-8 months because I misused my contacts and would keep them in for months at a time. My eyes were so warped they thought I had some eye disease. Left the docs office thinking I would go blind in 10-15 years. That sucked.
