Any questions, hit me up. My knowledge from looking is still pretty fresh, I think.

I love our pool. I also love that our house has always been the hangout place for the kids in the neighborhood, especially when my daughter was younger.

A pool does not decrease a homes value. It will decrease the number of people in the mix but those people are looking for pools.
We love ours. My MAIN recommendation is GET THE HOT TUB TOO. Don't be a cheap arse. You and the wife and friends will use hot tub all year. This is Katy. Only about 2 weeks out of year that is too cold for hot tub. The cost of a hot tub is basically the cost of a heater. Which is an extra $2500. When spending 40 grand what's 42.5?

You are replying to the wrong person, I think.
I agree with your comments, FWIW.

KW- you said Sunset? I am thinking about getting one (in Cinco too). With the home values rising so fast right now it's easy to justify it with the increase in equity lately.
Cdawg- you do pools in Katy?

Don't do it. Get a 10k huge whirlpool. They are great to relax in and are very very low maintenance. Love mine.

I had a pool drawn up with an outdoor kitchen two years and I got several estimates from 150K to 200k. So prepare your wallet

How much of that was the pool?
73K for 25,000 gallon pool, with some slate around it

you're probably looking at about $60-70K for something upscale

I know a few pools builders in Katy and have done plenty of designs for some of them. I know Sunset. He's a good guy. His father owns Laguna Pools and his Bro in law owns InVision Pools. All three do enough business where they might seem like competitors but all have a great relationship with one another and stay busy. If you want my opinion, in the Katy area go with InVision or Sunset. Those guys have grown up building pools and they understand design and how to implement it. You're not going to get some altered template pulled out of a drawer by some salesman pushed to get the sale like a lot of them. You're going to get a custom design fitted for your house and backyard space and you deal with the owner directly.

We live near the katy area and our pool guy was out of the woodlands. Built just what we wanted and did his initial 3d artists rendering which turned out just like the pictures. We did a swim up bar and fire pit, also already had a outdoor kitchen/cabana. The pool and firepit was in that 75k range. I think all the pool companies around here can build you a good pool. I went with the smaller guy with less overhead. As far as is it worth it, of course it is if you have kids or like to entertain.

Mostly bc they all use the same subs. But I've seen some serious screw-ups b/c many guys think they can be a brief case contractor but not know crap with installation.

good choice b/c he's going to pay attention to the details for the most part or typically and service is better b/c they rely on referrals.

This. I have a big hot tub. Mainly use it on weekends. Fire it up this time of year during the evenings and during the Summer, it becomes a mini-pool. It's actually much better than a pool, imo. During the Summer I just don't turn the heater on and crank on the blower and hop in on a raft. Add some margaritas and it's pretty nice. If I want to swim with the kiddos, we go to the hood pool down the street or to my gym.

Also he understood he wasn't getting paid until I was satisfied with the work. I thought it all turned out really well.
