My buddy had a good question about CLM...

Friend is a Mich St alum. His question was "Would Dantonio do better than Miles at LSU with the same players?"
I'm expanding it further though, is there anyone you can honestly say would do better here with the players we have/have had than CLM?
I don't believe so, IMO.

No, I like Dantonio and I'm not trying to make fun of him but he has had heart problems in the Big Ten, the SEC made CUM quit cause of it.
Dantonio could not handle the pressure physically of being the head coach of LSU more than two years IMO.

Overall, I believe that CLM's players want to give their all to him. That goes a long way. Nobody can scrutinize a coach like its own fan base. You can find faults with Les just the same as you can find faults with other coaches around the country. That being said, I wouldn't trade him for anyone.

Might be better to actually type Coach Urban Meyer than abbreviate in this instance lol.

Thought you said it was a good question?

I thought it was appropriate!

I think the OP is simply asking,
is Dantonio a better coach than Miles?

Given 8 years. Recruit the same players. Have the same incidents with players.
The only coaches that might have had similar or better success through some 110 + games at LSU would be:
1. Nick Saban. 2. Urban Myer. 3. Pete Carrol.
The end.

I agree, the man just keeps winning & winning. If you think about it, several of the teams he put together in the recruiting process didn't end up as he initially envisioned due to players being let go(Perrilloux, T. Mathieu, etc) & the mass exodus last year. Those were huge loses & we still have fielded quality teams.
2005 11–2
2006 11–2
2007 12–2
2008 8–5
2009 9–4
2010 11–2
2011 13–1
2012 10–3
2013 10-3
CLM has won multiple SEC titles, the Peach, Sugar, National Title, Chick-fila, Cotton, & Outback Bowls as our head coach.
He makes mistakes (as we all do) & will take responsibility when due (Ole Miss 2013). He loves his players, loves LSU, & has only expanded the LSU brand.

Where is the good question....??

I don't think Les gets enough credit for the winning records during the lean years. We were starting Andrew Hatch and a freshman Jarrett Lee in 2008 and beat Tuberville and Spurrier on the road, and took Saban's unbeaten squad to OT after throwing 1,000 picks against them. Then, in 2009, we had seriously, almost zero offense, and went 9-4 and were a brain fart away from having yet another 10 win season (I am loath to mention that game, but hey it happened). Hell, if we hadn't played in possibly the worst field conditions in bowl history, we could have easily had 11 wins that year too.
The point is, his teams compete hard. There are a small handful of games during his tenure in which we were soundly beaten: Georgia 2005, Florida 2008, Ole Miss 2008, 1/9/12. Maybe I would count Bama last year too, but we were in that game into the fourth quarter. That's maybe one game every other year that we don't really have a chance at winning.

I don't care for this premise. Recruiting is a huge part of college coaching. You can't separate them. If you are going to be fair, ask if dantonio would do better than Les at LSU with the players dantonio would be able to recruit for himself.
Les is a damn good combination of recruiting and coaching. We are lucky to have him, and I take him over dantonio every day of the week. Even Saturday.

There is no way of knowing that, and we won't be trying it, so who cares?

There will come a day, Probably within a few years of his retirement that LSU fans will not have to consult with other LSU fans to realize (or seek justification for the fact) that Les Miles was/is the greatest LSU Coach of all time.
