re: Jindal Drains Medicaid fund to balance budget

Well I think Medicaid (Medicare is federally administered, so doubt he could touch that - OP might want to change the thread title) should be eliminated entirely, so I have no problem with this.

Well, I hope they just decide not to fund the $800 million for the elderly and let charities or their families or their own savings fill the void as it should be.

I am just saying what I want in a perfect world. I realize it is unlikely. If you are running a business and have some cash earmarked for an expense that is down the road, probably spread out over a long time, and you need funds for other near-term expenses, then you use the cash earmarked for long-term expenses since it is needed now for something else. It's not like Medicare where individuals are taxed part of their paycheck and the funds are then used to pay Medicare expenses. Medicaid, as I understand it, is an allocation of general budget dollars to begin with. If I am wrong, please correct me.

The funds in question, by state law (2012 Louisiana constitutional amendment), must be spent on Medicaid expenses, which they are in this case.

I love it when people criticize Jindal for spending the rainy day fund.

Didn't we just have the worst recession since the Great Depression? How much does it suppose to "rain" before you tap into the rainy day fund?

Jindal has lowered taxes, cut back on state workers, and he has lowered state spending after the Katrina "bubble".

I don't like his leadership style or everything he does either; however, his spending policies and his efforts to cut taxes were very much appreciated.

I have no problem with government "draining" money out of its accounts.

I DESPISE seeing governmental entities, such as BREC and the EBR Library Board, sitting on millions of dollars in their accounts in banks while claiming they cannot cut our taxes or they will go broke.

If we could ever find out how many hundreds of millions of dollars local and state governments have in their piggy banks, there would be a tax revolution.

thats just it he cant balance a budget, he has used onetime money from various sources to balance the budget for years. he runs around claiming how his conservative ideas are doing for louisiana. he could have with a republican base of legislature changed the LA constituion but hey he was to busy running across the cournty telling everyone what a great job he has done
