Nah I'll just continue to watch, which will boost his ratings and cause more of these threads. In the long run I win.

I like some of Fallon's skits, but I agree with most that he is not the best interviewer. Some of his bits can be a little lame too. The band is great, so that helps... I will probably just switch back and forth between Fallon and Kimmel. Kimmel has some great stuff on his show and I do like a lot of the pranks that he pulls.

What does it say about me that I like Ferguson better than any of the other late night talk show hosts? Seeing how no one has even mentioned him (unless I missed it), I'm guessing I'm alone on that though.

Ferguson is in the mold of Leno or better yet Letterman. He would have been the best possible replacement if they wanted to milk the show as much as possible until it's inevitable death. Ratings are going to plummet with Fallon. He isn't anywhere near mainstream enough. The people that like his style (I do btw) won't watch that kind of show in huge numbers like the show is used to. I guess Ferguson is a CBS guy and is probably in line for Letterman's job if he ever leaves.

I don't get this. People have made these blanket statements like they have inside information. I think NBC made the right choice given that Fallon is well loved in the industry and will continue to get big names on the show.

Moreover, for those hating on the skits and thinking the show is "too SNL," do you not remember Carson's skits? Do you not remember when Leno had skits (back when he was funny)? Skits are part of what makes a late night show a "variety show" and are the reason late night shows became popular (before the major celebrities came on to hock whatever movie or album they had just produced). They are far more engaging and, typically, more humorous than a guy standing in front of a camera with jokes written the night before. I remember when Conan used to do skits regularly, like "In the Year 2000," which was fricking brilliant. It's the skits, not the monologues, not the interviews, not even the musical guests, that get remembered, and in the short time Fallon's been on, he's already produced at least two viral hits: The Evolution of Hip Hop Dancing and R. Kelly's Remix Ignition sung by a Barbershop Quartet.

When I think of Carson, I immediately think of the Carnac the Magnificent, not a monologue.

Exactly. Which means that every SNL cast member ever is also terrible and should be discredited because they've produced, at some point, a skit that fell flat. Guess we should all hate Belushi, Chase, Aykroyd, Murray, Murphy, Carvey, Crystal, Radner, Quaid, Downey Jr., Franken, Sandler, Miller, Spade, Farley, Rock, Ferrell, Poehler, Fey, Samburg, Forte, Garofalo, Gasteyer, Gotfried, Guest, Mohr, Morgan Hader, Michael Hall, Quinn, Shannon, Smigel, Hammond, Hartman, Kattan, Stiller, Louis-Dreyfus, Lovitz, Myers, Nealon, Macdonald, Meadows, Meyers, Moynihan, Parnell, and Wiig.

Guess we should also discredit Kimmel, Letterman, Ferguson, Leno, Carson, O'Brien, Stewart and Colbert, because despite having long standing jobs in the comic business, they've all had flops.

O and Trey Parker and Matt Stone since they don't produce gut busting episodes of South Park every single week.

O and every comedian ever fricking born.

Jesus, people are stupid.

I'm willing to bet a lot of the people saying this were infants or toddlers when Carson was last hosting the Tonight Show.

To me, I loved the Charades game with Cooper, Thompson, McGraw, and Jimmy. And I really enjoyed Jimmy's interview with Seinfeld, talking about doing standup. Watching celebrities get out of their element and do something different is a lot more entertaining than a scripted series of questions followed by a clip from their movie. These types of things are what made Johnny's show so great.

I think people are so used to saying "He's not Johnny" that the don't really remember what Johnny was anymore.
