Defund higher education. How is TOPS funded? Louisiana, probably has the cheapest road to college than almost any other state once you factor the low academic standards required to qualify for TOPS.

Hes talking about all the BS spending on these overpaid professors and pointless programs.

My biggest gripe is he hides behind the constitutional constraints yet refuses to do anything to fix our clusterfrick of a constitution
that is my only real gripe. He has cut funding got higher ed too much (even though I dont believe its the doom and gloom his opponents say). I wish he would seriously try to change the state constitution and close the waste of money HBCUs.

Spot on

If he would at least try to reach out to groups and maybe listen to a few people who aren't in his "inner" circle, he might could have received some good advice about pushing some of his major reforms.
Instead he just tells everyone to fck off, here is what I'm going to do whether you like it or not, even if it's not going to work in the end anyway.
Way too damn worried about his next gig.

I give him props for not being corrupt and helping a little to help the state's economy, but he didn't have the balls to push for accurate and true reforms.

Accord to the article I just read, HBCU in Louisiana are hurting just as much as other universities. However, I do think its time to do something about Southern University. That might be one of the worse universities in the entire country. It needs to merge and downsize or just be phased out completely.

That is my point you got atleast 3 universities that are using money and not achieving results. If you closed
GSU, SU, and SUNO the students could go to LSU, UNO, LaTech, etc and maybe there would be funds to make the rest better.

In addition to fixing the constitution that only basically allows healthcare and higher ed to be cut, he could have really made a real effort to reform higher ed in the state.
Lots of closures and mergers need to happen. Our current system is a damn fine joke.

IMO a lot of people on the right have been more turned off by how he does things rather what he does. He's been very unilateral and heavy-handed, making significant decisions without even notifying, much less trying to work with, the people in the affected areas.

I know politician has the balls to, but if Jindal did he would gain alot of his support back. Especially since the AA's have been solidly D hus whole term.

Yeah, that's BS.
He was as pro republican party as you could get until he figured out that the establishment wasn't going to push for him to be a Pres or VP candidate.

i don't get it. i know he's cut alot of spending but if you look at the different economic rankings since he's been governor, he's done a great job

I agree that he has done an ok job at keeping corruption down and attracting some new businesses, alot of stuff that is going on would probably have happened any way.

The hundrends of millions(if not billions) that have been invested in south La for Katrina/Rita rebuilding is one example.

All of the BP money that came in helped during what was a national economic slow down.

And finally, the industrial boom that we are seeing is mostly due to the new oil and gas finds in the region. Partly because of fracking/drilling, and partly because of the heavy industry that is moving here to be near the cheap natural gas, etc.
