How did you come up playing?

Were you an A-Rod? ie whiny little b, that called fouls. "Hey you fouled me there"

Or

Were you a Jeter? ie Class and toughness, "I fouled you on that one"

I find there is a pretty distinct split in pickup games. We always played like the latter coming up. When I got older and started playing with different groups I noticed a bunch of guys like the former. And it's obnoxious.

What is y'all's opinion on the matter?

I grew up around a bunch of country boys, and every time we did something like that we would end up in a scuffle...so we didn't really play much basketball or football.

I NEVER call fouls. I've played about 3x a week for about 6 years and have only called like 20. I don't remember the last time i called a foul at the rec.

couple things i hate that are in this thread already.

1) the guy who brags about never calling fouls. you arent cool. you are pissing me off if you are on my team and not calling obvious fouls. you're not making anything better by letting fouls happen.

2) guy who calls fouls on himself. offense calls fouls and if he didnt call it, there is probably a reason for it. he might know he is doing it to you as well or have you beat on a play and doesnt want the foul.

I only call foul when I'm fouled when I can say "And one". I'll usually give the foul when I think I've altered the shot causing stop play or him to miss the shot. Anything outside the paint is usually fair game.
