Does anyone have experience with taking a trip in one? Thinking of getting one, but was worried as to how it does on trips?

Just ordered a 2014 in granite crystal to replace my 2 door 2010 jk. It's awesome. Of course I drive a manual but it has cruise control. Just know that it's a very loud interior.

I love taking road trips in mine.

However I do know people that hate it, so I guess it just depends on you.

its not like being in pretty much every other vehicle, as far as comfort and drivability on trips

Before I lifted and killed the creature comfort of mine it was great for trips. Would recommend one without question.

Fwiw, with the old engine I was able to do 72 and maintain right at 20mpg to and from Destin a couple times.

I've always wanted one with a Manual and Roll Up windows. Would love to buy the entry level one and do everything myself.

I had a 2010 with the old 3.8 and hated it. I didn't mind the ride, comfort level, or the road noise, but hated the lack of power. The 3.6 is supposed to be much better though.

Never driven an unlimited, but I used to have a jeep wrangler. I am sure the experience will be the same.

I am from Georgia, so I made trips from LSU to Georgia all the time. It will be a bit louder than you are use to on the road. Also, had both a hardtop and softtop on my vehicle. There is barley any difference. I suggest the soft top just because not only is it easier to take the top down, but if you get caught in a summer storm and have a hard top, you're fricked (because you have to leave it at home).

Also, regardless of hardtop or soft top, they will leak at some point. Every convertible that isn't top of the line will.

They. Are. Turrible. Owned one for 6yrs. Don't buy anything Chrysler. The idea of owning a Wrangler is appealing but trust me, if this isn't just a "play around in" vehicle do not get one.

Your first mistake is buying a vehicle designed to be taken off road and modified and use it for long road trips. It's like buying a Mazda for pulling a horse trailer.

They're fine. Did a West Texas trip in my son's. No comfort issues at all.

I have had 2 jeeps before this one.I just bought a 2013 unlimited Sahara ever option but leather nav and matching top. I drove 10 hours home in it. It made noise but not bad at all. I love the room in it.

As nurse said 2012-13 used ones are going to be as much as a new one. I wouldn't buy a 2007-11 bc that engine is way to weak.

I picked mine up for 30,300. If you are willing to travel to get one like I was you can find much better deals. Saved me 10k from one dealership here. And 4k from the other one here. Dealers are proud of them.

I've got a '12 unlimited with 35's, 4.10 gearing and a 4" TeraFlex lift. Drive across the length of Mississippi (~6hours) pretty regularly, and remain happy.

Absolutely cannot talk on cell-phone (soft-top) while on interstate, though.
