Half of LA Voucher Students at D or F Schools

There was an article in Times Picayune in Nov 2013 titled "Half of LA Voucher Students at D or F schools in program's first year (2013) Data Shows"
I don't know how to attach the link to this post.
Highlights from article:
"The state released the scores after a federal judge ruled the Dept of Justice had the right to monitor the program."
"On the state's 150 -point scoring system, anything lower than a 50 is an F."
"The lowest scoring voucher school, Redemptorist Elem , had a score of 18.6 on the 150 point scale."
"there are consequences for low scores: after two years, failing voucher schools may not take new publicly funded students. They may, however, keep the students they have."
Baton Rouge Voucher Schools (2013 Performance Score):
Hosanna Christian School (41.5)
Redemptorist HS (score withheld due to federal privacy)
Redemptorist Jr (29)
Redemptorist Elem (18.6)
Note: The New Orleans voucher schools listed in the article also.

I don't understand how students in failing public schools can get a voucher (that we as citizens pay for) to attend a private school that is failing!
How does Redemptorist HS get away with not having to reveal their score?
:spank:

Slow down, chief! Before trying to tackle that issue, maybe you should start with something a bit more manageable...like figuring out how to post a link.

I don't understand how the state can use tax money to fund class integration.

From the times article.
So the f and d students at the bad public schools are now f and d students at the private schools. So the voucher program is what we thought it was, a failure.
quote:
The Scholarship Cohort Indices measure only students on vouchers at the private schools, not the entire student body. The calculations are nearly identical to those used for public schools and rely heavily on test results. On the state's 150-point scoring system, anything lower than a 50 is an F.

they were trying to blame the schools for poor performance. when in reality it goes back to the homelife. "parents" dont want to accept the fact they are the failures- always gotta blame somebody else.

Yep. And if You put one dumbass in a classroom all you get is more dumbasses.

My governor disagrees. He strongly supports the private schools having a more influential role.

Redemptorist should go out and hire the best teachers out there at once.
Eta I see now that they only measured performance of voucher kids.

Sad part is Drinks it is not only in La.

I went to a Catholic HS that is not accepting vouchers bc they don't want the inevitable strings that will come with it.

You're only a failing school because you have failing students. It's much more about the parents and students than it ever was about the schools.
