re: Redemptorist shutting down.

Why are our tax dollars used to pay for educational vouchers to private schools (example Redemptorist) to save kids from a CDF public school when the voucher school is rated F also?

From November 28, 2013 Times Picayune in New Orleans:
"The lowest scoring voucher school, Redemptorist Elem in Baton Rouge, had a score of 18.6 on the 150 point scale. If measured along public schools, Redemptorist would be the second worst in the state, not counting alternative schools. Any score lower than a 50 is an F."

Modern are these schools you mentioned Diocesan schools governed by Dr Mel or are they parochial?
It's my understanding that if they aren't diocesan schools, the parish priests run the school not Dr Melanie Verges.

I heard a rumor that Dr Mel's planned since she was hired was to sell the HS to the new Cristo Rey catholic HS.

Definitely not Redemptorist - my neighbor told me yesterday the new principal Andereck (Shea Dixon's mom) has a resignation letter posted on website. That makes two more principals (Menard and Andereck) that have left since principal Sanders left almost two years ago.

Half of LA Voucher Students at D or F Schools
Posted by Doodlebuggy on 2/5/14 at 3:47 am
There was an article in Times Picayune in Nov 2013 titled "Half of LA Voucher Students at D or F schools in program's first year (2013) Data Shows"
I don't know how to attach the link to this post.
Highlights from article:
"The state released the scores after a federal judge ruled the Dept of Justice had the right to monitor the program."
"On the state's 150 -point scoring system, anything lower than a 50 is an F."
"The lowest scoring voucher school, Redemptorist Elem , had a score of 18.6 on the 150 point scale."
"there are consequences for low scores: after two years, failing voucher schools may not take new publicly funded students. They may, however, keep the students they have."
Baton Rouge Voucher Schools (2013 Performance Score):
Hosanna Christian School (41.5)
Redemptorist HS (score withheld due to federal privacy)
Redemptorist Jr (29)
Redemptorist Elem (18.6)
Note: The New Orleans voucher schools listed in the article also.

I don't understand how students in failing public schools can get a voucher (that we as citizens pay for) to attend a private school that is failing!
How does Redemptorist HS get away with not having to reveal their score?
