I do want to give 7 a shout out for two AWESOME things.
1. Cosmo Canyon theme
2. The scene where you find out Cloud WAS at Nibelheim...as the anonymous Shinra solider that you the player interacted with multiple times earlier in the game. That was excellently done and one of my favorites in the series.

Square had just started getting super emo post FF7 and beyond (a predictor of the future? )
Sqaull from FF8 may be the most emo protagonist of all time

Would be my exact ranking except I would say I is a bit higher for being the first alone.
I was trying not to use nostalgia or time of release as a reason. I enjoyed the hell out of 1 at the time.

Pump the brakes there, 1 is one of the better ones. Especially considering it was on the Nintendo. You spoony bard!
Sorry. Very much enjoyed it at the time. Those rankings would look different if I used release date as a factor. I own origins just can't get myself to play it anymore.

I didn't rank X-2 either but I never really got far into that one. Will prolly pick up the HD remake.

I have been on a classic RPG marathon the last 8 months or so. Miss the good days of RPGs
XenoGears - Finished
Legend of Dragoon - Stopped about 10 hours in.
FF7 - Finished
FF9 - Finished
Link to the Past - Finished
Ocarina of Time - at the spirit temple
Fixing to either start the FFIV ios/ds remake or FF8 tonight. Any votes?
I've been doing the same thing.
How'd you like xenogears ? I lved it
I was thinking about playing legend of the dragoon. you didn't like it ?
I started playing FFIV remake for psp and only got 3 hours in. didn't enjoy it at all. battles were way too easy, dialogue was short and story seemed shallow. I'd say give FF8 a shot. some people love it, but I thought it was OK

I've always wondered why FF Tactics doesn't get a lot of spotlight in the FF world? I always liked that one a lot, probably played it more than any of the others.

Great Game, really tails off in the later parts. This was actually my first play through. Only one on that list that was my first time.

One of my fav RPG's when I was younger. I just got busy at work and put it down. I cleaned out my save file on accident on my ps3 and I didn't feel like starting over.

I love 4.
Oh and I know about 8. I have played all Final Fantasy games. And pretty much any RPG for that matter. That list was really me just playing old games again.

While Absolutely Fantastic (particularly the GBA version) it isn't really "FF" Cannon. Much Like Crystal Chronicles, which is ok, and Mystic Quest....it's a departure. A significant one too.
That Strategy/RPG is chock full of great games too. Ogre Battle, Shining Force, Fire Emblem, Advanced Wars. It's hard to get noticed in that lot.
Square also hit a home run in production for Hybrid Heaven, but no one EVER talks about that one either.

I'm playing through 9 at the moment and on the last disc... it's ok. I'm with you on 4, mostly nostalgia. Enjoyed it and the story. Regarding 7, I played it for the first time last year, so perhaps the hype and playing it years after release had something to do with it not being my favorite. I think I'd rank the ones I've played something like this: 4, 10, 7, and 9. I might have one more in me, any recommendations on which should be next up in the queue?

Cool... Was thinking 6 or 8. I also saw tactics had decent reviews.

Go with VI. Stick with it after the first couple of hours. At least IMO (and I'm not fond of snow-themed landscapes) it takes about that long to warm up. By the time you leave the first town...it's on.

all 3 of those are worth a playthrough. I really liked 6 and tactics.

Fyi for everyone in here.. path of exile is basically Diablo with a materia system (and no glaring problems).. just throwing it out there since I love that unique style of magic system.
