Electric chair could return for executions in Louisiana

In Louisiana, where 81 men and two women await execution, state Rep. Joseph Lopinto said he expects to file legislation this year diversifying the state’s death penalty law. At the moment, executions in Louisiana must be carried out through a needle. A hangman’s noose, gas chamber, electric chair or firing squad are not legally allowed alternatives.
“I’m going to bring back the electric chair,” said Lopinto, R-Metairie.

I imagine that there are going to be lawsuits if they bring it back if the legislation is successful.

Firing Squad FTW. Shooters should be selected from the citizenry at random just like jury duty. The citizenry should be responsible for executing it's criminals. Not the state.

Now I ideally support the death penalty because if you take a person's life away against their will, you have to pay the ultimate price in kind, death is the only appropriate punishment for you.
When you take a person away from their loved ones, friends and family forever, you don't deserve to be still living on this world.
Fiscally, I'm opposed to it because it's an impractical bottomless money pit with appeals, court costs, lawyer fees and investigations by the police and prosecutors that consume time and money that all drag on for years. That's way too much time and money to invest in an incident that happened between two people. It's time to cut our losses, move on and make life in prison without parole the max penalty or only use the death penalty where guilt is an absolute slam dunk and the defendant did it beyond and without a reasonable doubt.

How is the state forcing citizens to do something they otherwise wouldn't do not the state acting?

I just think the citizens would have a more vested interest in the sentencing if they had to pull the trigger. I of course think you should be able to opt out of it, and you also shouldn't be able to volunteer for it. Otherwise you'd just get a bunch of psychos.

Everybody should read the full article. This is in response to some issues about states not being able to nought he right and enough drugs to get the job done in a timely manner that diesn't violate the cruel and unusual punishment clause.

On a related note there is no justifiable reason for the death penalty to exist
