Take whoever is responsible for stealing the federal money that was set aside to clean up the east and hang them from the top of the roller coaster .
But you'd better hurry if you plan on doing this yourself. He's about to spend the next 20-30 in protective custody.

this failed once. let's not waste time, money, and any tax credits doing it again.

We loved going to Jazzland/Six Flags. It had it's negative aspects - hot, not a great locatiion, low attendance lending itself to less than stellar service...
But an amusement park is a great thing for a community. It's fun. It gives kids something to do during the summer. It provides jobs for young adults. It gives the area another family friendly venue for tourists.
I hope it comes back. I'd prefer if it was located somewhere closer to the central part of the city, but it doesn't make sense to waste the physical plant and infrastructure that was built out in the "far east".

no way in hell i would get on any "refurbished" ride there after the neglect that its been sitting dormant since 05

I actually think if you relocate this whole park towards the northshore. They have tons of property heading towards mandeville, hammond etc. Just pick a spot. And expand it as much as you want. I def think the northshore would be able to sustain it. And i just don't think ppl will go to NOLA east just to go to a theme park. But they would have no problem crossing that twin span or causeway to go to one located there.

Jazzland was awesome. Good rides and short lines. We used to have season passes, and every Wednesday after work we'd take the three kids there. A nice water park there might even be a bigger draw than the rides. A lot of people from my area make the drive to Blue Bayou, and the East would be a closer option.

Seems like a dumb idea. Never been there but isn't the location in not that great of an area and people had stopped going there because of that? I seem to recall the park was struggling before Katrina wiped it out and that's why Six Flags never returned.

Funny how every generation in NOLA at one time had a theme park and then it went away.
Yeah, I really only said Pontchartrain Park because my dad always talks about going there growing up. I'm not from New Orleans like him, so I only went to Jazzland a couple times back in the day.

Could have put it in the Florida area of the upper ninth ward.
It's mostly abandoned, very close to interstate and downtown. Or the Westbank.
But the East is easy for people on the northshore and MS, and it allows room to expand if needed.

Also new barriers and levees should protect against another Katrina.
It's really not that difficult. Just get the hell off of the roller coaster when the storm comes.

Living on the southshore, I hate those bridges.
The East is easier, plus I can stop at Dong Phong and get some baked goods while out there.
I think Laplace or St. Charles parish would have been an ideal location.
I don't get why the east can't be improved.
If only they could use imminent domain to clean the area around Dowman they could attract more people to the east.

frick that. The only good idea they had for that land was to build a power plant out there.

Nuclear power plant a few miles outside the city now, why would we want a fossil fuel plant in the area too?

How cool would it be to build a new theme park right there at NOLA Motorsports park? Talk about would make for a cool weekend getaway.

That would be a great place, plenty of land.
An idea I would propose for the East would be a sports complex.
A F1 track (like Austin just built) with an Oval route option for Nascar and Indycar. A dirt track, a drag track.
Two Highschool football stadiums. One highschool baseball stadium.
Practice fields. Hotel. Large batting cage complex. Indoor practice area. Basketball indoor gym, outdoor hoops. Tennis complex, volleyball area. Inside ice skating rink.
Could make it the home of most state tournaments.
Use it for practice fields for visiting bowl teams/superbowl teams.
lure a national level race. Possibly international event.
Have a place for kids to get sports mentorship and camps year round.
Be able to practice for events. Could train olympic teams there. Could get a whole generation of local kids to be interested in new sports.
Would solve high school football scheduling issues. Would allow smaller schools places to play big games.

I grew up back there in eastover, use to love going to jazzland. Me and my brother would go pretty much every weekend. I would go every now and then if they brought it back.
