I'd put hickey right behind ethan martin on your list. Its almost impossible to compare hickey with chris jackson, because they are totally different. Jackson was score first and hickey is a point guard that looks to distribute 1st. As far as a point guard that can bring the ball down court against anyone, get the offense going, hit the occasional big shot and give you solid defense, hickey is near the top. He does exactly what you need a point guard to do.

Not really a fair comparison.

I think the OP must be very young. It wouldn't even consider either player when talking about the history of LSU basketball. Sorry, I like both players, but they don't get into the discussion when talking about the best in LSU's history.

Hickey isn't a hair on Kenny Higgs' arse. Not even close. Basketball was played here before this Century. Really good basketball.

let's not get ahead of ourselves. temple was more of a defensive specialist, and that's just about it.

if Hickey has Bright's size then he would be better IMO. however Torris is a good comparison of the two.
i would put Hickey in the same category as him as far as LSU history goes.

quote:Well all players are different. Chris was a point guard because he handled the rock and controlled the game. He didn't have a lot of assists because he was always the best shooter on the floor. But he did make some great assists in his day.

You probably don't even know who Kenny Higgs is. Here are some facts on him:
Higgs left his mark on LSU as a two-time honorable mention All-American, three-time second team All-Southeastern Conference and three-time All-Louisiana selection, finishing his career as the third leading scorer in school history with 1,896 points (17.9 average). Today he still ranks seventh in total points and 10th in scoring average. But he was most remembered for ball distribution. He set a school and SEC record with 645 career assists (6.08 average), a mark threatened by only one player at LSU, the point guard who followed him, Ethan Martin, who finished with 638.
Higgs made an immediate impact as a freshman in 1975, averaging 18.1 points and earning Louisiana Freshman of the Year honors. He increased his scoring average to 22.2 points as a sophomore, to go along with 6.65 assists per game. In 1977 Higgs led the SEC in assists (8.85 average), while still scoring at a 17.7 clip. During his senior season his scoring average dipped to 13.7 points, as LSU added other talented scorers around him on its way to becoming an SEC and national power.
******************
6.08 assist average and 17.9 points for his career. All time assist leader. Shares SEC record for most in a game with 19.
Played three years in NBA.

I guess you all have forgotten about Chris Jackson & Pistol Pete!
Posted on 1/31/14 at 11:21 am to rzd30
Both players are improving, and still have a lot to show going forward. Right now, they're roughly top-10 all time imo.

For PURE point guards, I would go Kenny Higgs, Ethan Martin, Derrick Taylor, Randy Livingston, and Torris Bright before even considering Hickey. Pistol and Chris Jackson wasn't pure point guards in the truest sense but I would take those two over Hickey everyday of the week and twice on Sundays.

where does xavier whipple land on this astute list?

The real question is where is Tuba in LSU history? Has to be the most talked about and prolific walk on ever. He is a walk on legend.

What about Bo Spencer?

But apparently it really upset you that I "cut and paste" from the internet? Wow, really looking for anything to get upset about now aren't we? Higgs was a great player and Hickey is a great player. I will leave it at that.
you douche
