Will taxpayers get a small refund due to the schools closures? Sure would be nice.

The following:

They said if we can't make it don't come in but they're making us use vacation or sick pay.

That's kind of bullshite.

If you're salaried, isn't it also against the law?

Personally, I doubt it is. But I'm not an attorney so who knows.

I'm pretty sure per the terms of exempt employee status you have to pay them if they are unable to get to work due to natural disasters.

Exempt at our company just means you don't punch a clock so you're not docked if you leave for a few hours

So not coming in sounds like a vacation day. But it's bulllshit they didn't close your office

Our buses aren't even running tomorrow

I just had a lightbulb moment.. You take the bus to work.. and you always say you don't want to go out to get more alcohol.. You must really not like driving.

Our boss thinks "it'll be safe to get to work but might have trouble getting home".

That means come into work

It is a vacation/sick day (no differentiation between the two) for us. It is BS that they didn't close but even if they had closed, with the way I am, I'd still do some kind of work at my house to either catch up, get ahead or work on a project. I'm going to try to go in tomorrow morning but leave early because I don't feel like dealing with the Perkins/Bluebonnet traffic because I work off of Perkins and take bluebonnet down to Jefferson for my commute to and from work which even on a normal day traffic sucks so add in Ice/Snow, people lose their f'n minds

But not in a natural disaster. For example: if you are a salaried employee and a hurricane comes and you dont come to work for a couple of days, the company still has to pay you.

There are certain things they have to do to maintain the exempt status. I once worked for a company that told us they were shutting down the week of Christmas, and everyone had to use their vacation, or if they were short vacation, they had to take it unpaid. Several people threatened to call the LA Dept of Labor. The next year, they "took" 4 sick days away from us and "gave" us the week between Christmas and New Years off.
