They do something similar to this at hospitals. I know during hurricane threats(when I still lived in LA) we were told to bring change of clothes, etc with us to work cause they may make us stay after our shift and sleep at the hospital.
Hospitals need nurses to care for patients. They don't close just because of the weather. It would suck to work a 12 hour shift and then have no nurse available to relieve you.

I worked full time while going to college full time. So
But yes, going full time in college in itself is a version of a job. Especially when going 15 or above hours in your upper level classes. Every class and score matters.
ETA: Also, wasn't questioning you as to whether it was(n't) a job. If you said professor I was going to ask you what you taught so all is good
