Tidbits:

quote:

Players will attend all of their classes and sit in the front two rows of all of their classes. GAs, academic folks, position coaches will be checking constantly now.

No headphones in class. No texting in class. Sit up and take notes.

If a player misses a class, he runs until it hurts. If he misses two classes, his entire position unit runs. If he misses three, the position coach runs. The position coaches don't want to run.

No earrings in the football building. No drugs. No stealing. No guns. Treat women with respect.

Players may not live off campus anymore, unless they're a senior who hits certain academic standards. The University will buy out the leases for every player currently living off campus and put them in the athletic dorm.

The team will all live together, eat together, suffer together, and hang out together. They will become a true team and learn to impose accountability on each other. The cliques are over.

There's no time for a rebuild. "I don't have time for that." The expectation is that Texas wins now.

Players will learn that they would rather practice than milk a minor injury.

The focus is on winning and graduating. Anything extraneous to that is a distraction and will be stamped out or removed.

Strong met individually with seniors and key leaders and re-emphasized that the plan is to win now. They can lead the new culture or be run over by it.

"I don't want to talk about things. I'd rather do things. We just talked. Now it's time to do."

Well, I guess we know why he never got hired as an SEC head coach. Can't say that shite at interviews.

I know Auburn/Gus tried to get all the players back into the dorms. But what's the rule on this? can they force players to live on campus? I know they are not allowed to have exclusive athletic dorms anymore.

This is the way it should be.

Good on him.

I think it is at least 50% of the population of said dorm must be general student body...

you have to maintain a certain percentage of non-athlete students in the athletic dorms...

Gamblers need to remember this and start betting Texas from Jump Street next year. It won't take the odds makers long to make their adjustment.

Strong's real problem is keeping them away from the boosters. More than anyone they give the players a sense of entitlement.

Not sure how he can change the "culture" of the boosters that were there 40 years before Strong arrived and will be there 40 years after he is loooong gone.

Strong trying to hold back the ocean tide. Herculean task.

or it could fail miserably after 15 years of country club football under mack brown... we'll see. It's either brillant or a disaster.

I actually like Strong and though I can't wish him luck I do respect him. That said, even Bear Bryant only won 1 game after he took the Boys to Junction. It usually takes some time for that type of mentality to pay dividends. This is especially true considering the folks currently at Texas have been coddled and told they are wonderful up until now.

Screw you. But yeah - we might finish the season with three players under that system.

Focusing on building character. I admire that. If he can get those players to buy in, that discipline can carry over to the field resulting in that program moving in the right direction again.

Yeah, but Coach Bryant only brought back 35 kids from Junction, and they weren't "elite" high school players either....but you're right about the "mentality" change. The Texas athletic complex is gonna be an "interesting" place for the next 8 months!

I hate that a good guy and great coach like Strong choose to destroy is career at that institution. The fans and boosters will not be kind, especially when this type of crackdown runs off talent. But if they would be patient, I think he is doing the right things to get that program back on its feet. Longhorn fans are never patient, so I really feel bad for Strong. At least he's getting paid.

Is this an NCAA violation?

Strong seems like the kind of guy smart enough to check on that before making that kind of statement.
