Anyone renew a passport recently?

I just looked briefly online, I figured it would be about $150.
Looks like the base government fee is $170, and another $100 or so if you want it in less than 4-7 weeks.
Anyone have any suggestions on easiest and most cost effective way to do renew?

I just did a few weeks ago. I think it was only around 110 for no rush. The estimated wait time was only 6-8 weeks.

YOu shouldn't have to get it expedited, unless you need it in like a week. We got ours back in less than 3 weeks with no rush. There isn't near the backlog that there was a while ago

Did this back in October...same price and time frame.
I got mine back in 3-4 weeks

I clicked on the first few links in a google search, and found multiple rates and time frames. That's why I'm asking... figured someone would know of a better way which appears true based on the first few responses.

I believe the main passport office is in New Orleans. You can do it in a day of you are around there.

Mine was like $110 or $120. Did it in December.

just do it asap and don't pay extra to get it sooner. you'll get it back more quickly now than if you wait closer to summer and the traveling season.

Do not try to get one in Houston. The passport office is closed until early 2014. No date has been given for opening yet.

I think my renewal was $110. You'll get it back quick if you live close to a main passport office. Got my renewal back in 2 weeks. I live about 75 miles from Miami.

I got my Renewed at the U.S. Embassy in Manila and I think it was $85 and I brought USD but they took Philippine Pesos also. Anyway it took one week to get my New Passport. Very easy!

Did recently and did the first level of "rush". We received the passports in just over a week and this was when the "gubmnt" was shut down!
