Lots of interesting names coming forward with interest in this job.

I think this is a terrible idea. Vandy needs an energetic coach with college experience.

Totally agree. Just amazed at the amount of interest in the job at both the college and pro level. Unheard of 3 years ago when going through this process.

Vanderbilt pays somewhere between $3-$4 million dollars. Interest will be high.

Former Gator getting a chance, hopefully

I don't get why you'd interview an NFL assistant, though. It really doesn't matter if the guy knows how to install some NFL scheme. What matters is whether he can build an SEC program at a school like Vandy.

"You want to go to the NFL? Guess what. I've been there, and I can get you there too."

That was essentially Mike Sherman's pitch to recruits while at A&M. He'd wear his Super Bowl ring while recruiting to wow kids.
In the end it didn't work out so well for him b/c he still wasn't suited for the college game.

Wasn't suited for the pro game either apparently.

I get the NFL argument. It just usually doesn't work out so well. Jim Mora has it going on -- but he was a decent NFL head coach. Most of your highly successful college coaches came from college jobs.

Vandy must have not liked their brief taste of success.
Schoddy is a very bland coach with very little innovation. His name and age is the only appealing aspect IMO.

How does anyone know if he can get them there? Who has has he gotten to the league? There are plenty of former pro assistants that suck in college.
Meanwhile there are plenty of established college coaches that have made a living off of getting kids to the NFL. Why wouldn't the kid just sign with them instead?

I could see Pep Hamilton, with the combination of recent Stanford experience and NFL success.
Still wish I were seeing Bob Stitt's name just because I'm curious how he'd do.

Personally, I think Pep would be pretty good hire.

I still think Derek Mason from Stanford would be the best hire.
