I am saying that Kiffin isn't the only coach to get fired from a couple of jobs.
And you calling me names really has no effect on me. Who the fvck are you.

Yeah. Cause coaches who have been fired before can never be good coaches anywhere else. Fired head coaches can never make good coordinators. Cough:Cam Cameron:Cough
His track record has not been to impressive as far as his last 3 gigs went. I guess you really can't count Tennessee. I guess time will tell. This is a huge gamble that could backfire on Saban just as easily could payoff big time. I just can't see Kiffin being a CO for long.

Yeah, but last year all of the Bama fans were telling us that Cameron would not be any good because he had been fired. They didn't care about his track record or why he was fired or that Baltimore's offense got worse after he left or who he had developed in the past or anything. It was just that he was fired so he must be terrible.
LSU's offense set records.
Bama fans only see things through Crimson colored glasses, so they can't see the truth. They were wrong about Cameron and they will be wrong about Kiffen. Kiffen has failed everywhere he has been and the reasons that he was fired are completely different from Cameron. But, say whatever makes you feel better, I guess.
Alabama fans hated Lane Kiffen and thought he was a complete loser before a few days ago. What changed? Oh yeah.

I agree. This is an all or nothing type hire.
I know a lot of Bama fans were making fun of the Cameron hire last year. I thought he did a great job for LSU. I believe that Kiffin can have that impact at Bama. He signed a 3 yr contract. I think he coaches all of it.

Excellent point. I really think this is the final word about the Kiffin hire. /thread

So Bama fans wear Crimson colored glasses but LSU fans do not wear P&G colored ones? You are saying there is no way Kiffin is going to be successful at Alabama. You doing what you are accusing Bama fans of doing last year. You all loved Nick Saban when he was at LSU but hate him now. What changed? Oh yeah. Feelings toward someone change as soon as that person represents your school or stops representing your school.

To me, the mere fact that this hire has to be explained and/or justified is quite telling.
Not really. Just look at this board and the national media for justification as to having to explain why he hired him.

All his issues come from something we’re not asking him to do
So he won't recruit or coach the offense? QB's only, eh Nick?

No, not all Bama fans thought this. There were plenty of Bama fans who thought that it was a good hire, including me.

Um, he joined our program...? Genius.

Nope.

No. I am saying he is a bad hire. You were successful without him with much safer OCs. This guy is a proven disaster everywhere he goes. The Risk/Reward ratio is totally skewed. You aren't desperate. Your offense wasn't your problem. This hire is completely un-Sabanlike. And, because of the High Risk - Low Comparative Reward, it is a really bad hire.
He might be successful next year. So what? You have had good offenses for years now. Your offense was not your problem. You could have gotten anyone to do a good job with less baggage than Kiffen. Does Alabama now need to score 50 ppg to win? If so, then what is Saban there for? It makes no sense.
Kiffen WILL blow up and take the program with him down a notch. It will happen. It has never NOT happened. His good offenses at USC were full of players getting paid and now USC has suffered terribly from sanctions. He was a part of that mess, too.
How is this a good hire? Because your offense scores 28 against Auburn or 35 against Oklahoma? Or, because you averaged 40 ppg? You have done that already without him.
Kiffen might be fine next year but at some point his character is going to show. It always does. If you don't believe that, then you don't pay attention to human nature. And, Saban can't control his character.

It's just puzzling because it seems like saban could have chosen from a number of OCs with consistent track records. I think his head may be starting to reach the point where it's a little too far up his own arse.

Sure are speaking in a lot of absolutes there.
Posted on 1/14/14 at 12:46 pm to AlaTiger
I respect your opinion, but I respect Saban's more. He has infinitely more knowledge on the situation than you or I. I trust that he wont make a hire that is going to bring down our program.
I see where yall are coming from, but don't act like its ridiculous if Bama fans are 'okay' with the hire.

What is crazy is how right you think you are. That there is absolutely no chance he is successful.

Not really. Like I just said, Saban has 100% more knowledge on Kiffin and his situation than you or I.
Its not like this is the first time in history that the general public has flipped out about something that isnt a big deal.

The sheer fact that Bama took the chance to hire Kiffin (a guy with a laundry list of issues in his past positions) was not a good choice. Kiffin could very well come in and have his greatest offense of his career. If he does that, well he's pretty close to maintaining the average output over the last 4 years. And at what risk??
What is crazy is how right you think you are. That there is absolutely no chance he is successful.
I'm wondering if Saban has reached the Belichick point of his career where he becomes more of a fatherly figurehead and just enjoys grooming other people's throwaways.

The coaches chuckled when Saban told them, “I don't know if you've been to LSU but you can smell the bourbon on the 50-yard line.”
