Ratings increased from the year before.
Because LSU was playing in it. Not for long though :(

don't understand what was wrong with the bats from 09-10.

1999 - BESR standard. During the early 1990's several governing bodies and manufacturers had been discussing the regulation of bat performance. After the 1998 season - during which a large number of scoring records were broken - the issue came to a head, and the NCAA adopted the BESR (Ball-Exit-Speed Ratio) standard to regulate the performance of aluminum and composite bats. In addition, the NCAA instituted a reduction of the maximum barrel diameter to 2.5-inches, the "minus-3" rule on weight -- which means that the difference between the weight of the bat (in ounces) and the length (in inches) can be nor no more than 3 integers -- and a lower limit on the bat's moment-of-inertia.
quote:
2009 - composite bat ban. During the 2009 College World Series the NCAA discovered that a large percentage of BESR approved composite bats were found to significantly exceed the performance standard after being broken in through use. In July 2009, the NCAA imposed an indefinite moratorium banning the use of composite bats.

quote: Its pretty much a unanimous opinion outside of baseball teams from California that the new bat is ruining college baseball This. Teams like Fullerton already played small ball so it didn't affect them much. It directly hurt teams like LSU though who generally had at least a couple sluggers on the team. I hate them, find college baseball much more boring now, and really don't understand what was wrong with the bats from 09-10.
"Er ma gawd they took away gorilla ball and now we have to pitch and play defense."
My translation of what you guys sound like.

While our fanbase isnt the smartest, LSU had great pitching and defense last year. I dont have a huge problem with the bats but the CWS hasn't been fun to watch the last couple of years. Imo its more of a ballpark problem than a bat problem because baseball at the box is still fun to watch.

Haha..I was mostly responding to the knock against my Titans. I do agree to a point, but using HRs as a metric may not be the best nor is using "fun".
My take is that IF a pitcher hangs a curve then hit a line drive somewhere and don't swing for the fences. The ballpark is a known, so perhaps changing your approach at the plate would be a good idea.
Fullerton has some great pitching this year and I hope we make it to the CWS and use the park to our advantage.

I dont mind low scoring ballgames but i watched pitchers who werent great, dominate in Omaha.
Also, your Titans will be scary good this year. Looking forward to the season

This is what Ive been looking for for a while.
Ive played my entire life and played against guys throwing 90-95. I couldnt really tell the difference of 90 or 95 as a wbatter, but yet the pitchers would be able to get out the way better?
Maybe someone can convert this as feet per second from 60ft6.

95.6 mph as it comes off a bat meeting the new BBCOR standards, and 100.7 mph as it comes off a bat meeting the old BESR standards

This
quote:
Scott Dergan, meteorologist for the National Weather Service, said there's a difference in way the wind affects homeruns at TD Ameritrade Park compared to the old Rosenblatt Stadium. Both face an easterly direction – this protects batters from being blinded by the setting sun. But Rosenblatt was oriented to the north-northeast while TD Ameritrade is oriented toward the south-southeast. Additionally, Rosenblatt sat atop a hill while TD Ameritrade is along the the Missouri River in a valley. “It's different than at Rosenblatt, where the prevailing winds helped the ball out of the park,” Dergan said. Dergan said Omaha's prevailing winds during late spring and early summer are out of the south.

When UCLA's strategy was to throw belt high fastballs, the game is broken.

BBCOR Composite bats are still hot, the BBCOR they make them use (Aluminum, Alloy) is as dead as wood. I have personally hit with the Easton XL1 and S1, and the Louisville Slugger Attack and these bats still perform very very well.

ASU is one of the few if only offensive school in the West. Though I'd blame our underperformance more on coaching.

So your idea of pitching is throwing a belt high 87 mph fastball so the other team flies out to the outfield?! You should not be commenting on baseball then

not a good translation if that's what you took from it.

I made this same suggestion on the rant during and after the UCLA game and got blasted for it for about 10 pages. Evidently rant logic says that flattening your swing, being patient, and taking a few pitches is just flat out too hard that late in the season. The singluar sole problem with LSU's offense in the CWS was the bats, the balls, and the park according to the rant.

Typical Rant. Blame something else.

it'll help when the balls are changed some. it went from rewarding mediocre hitting, to having it pretty much perfect, to where it is now where it rewards mediocre pitching. neither extreme is good for college baseball.
