Super Bowls aren't the only factor in determining great QBs but the people who just want to ignore the amount of Super Bowls a guy has are being stupid. It's hard to put a measure on a guy's "it" factor but Super Bowls gives you a little bit of a measurement of it.
You can be a great QB with no Super Bowls and you can be a sucky QB with a couple of Super Bowls but you can't completely ignore the subject.

Well put. I'm not against someone saying Manning chokes at times.
However, if the Broncos beat the Pats on Sunday, Manning vs Brady will be at 2-2 in the playoffs, so the Brady owns Manning crap should stop.
I do not agree that he choked vs Baltimore last year though. He had the game won and the D went bonehead and allowed the Ravens to tie the game on a play that should NEVER happen.

how about you tell me who in the world says someone like Trent dilfer with one SB is better than Marino with 0?

No kidding. He may have the quickest release I've seen.
AMAZING.............. Damn those Chargers teams from the late 70's to early 80's were GREAT......................

If you are going to use the argument with one set of QB's, it must be used for all.

Yes that's when this discussion started,...
Idiot.

Idiot.

Their offense was great, but their D was nothing to write home about. And it's a good thing Fouts had a quick release, because his O line was nothing to write home about. He was like the Timex watch. He took a licking and kept on ticking.

How is 1 ring over zero proof?
Dilfer was better than Marino?

so the dilfer-Marino comparison and the Brady-manning comparison are the exact same thing?
Posted on 1/13/14 at 8:01 pm to cubsfan5150
Your argument is as moronically simplistic as your perceive your opponents' to be.
No one is saying that SBs is the ONLY factor of greatness. It is one factor though.

I don't see why these people never understand this.

quote:I'm with you, but if QB throws 30 times in a game, that's 90 plays between the run game, defense, and special teams he has no direct effect on. 75%.
absurd comparison. GTFO with this. pitchers play once every 5 games. QBs play every game.

Why?
Obviously I went with extremes, but I'll never believe that one QB is better than another just because one won a SB and the other didn't. That makes zero sense to me.

I understand, but QBs do not sit on the bench 4/5 games and watch without being able to contribute at all

quote:Because QB is the most important position in professional sports and has the single biggest impact on team performance. Great QBs should be able to lead their team to SB victory.
Please explain why it's so important.
quote:There are ~12 pitchers per MLB team. Only one starting QB per NFL team.
Pitchers aren't judged on World Series.
quote:You must be joking.
Basketball players are somewhat rightly judged based on the fact that one great basketball player has more impact that any other player in team sports IMO.
quote:SB victories are only one factor in consideration of all-time QB rankings. Does not winning a SB make Marino a less-than-great QB? Absolutely not. But it's a big negative factor in his candidacy for GOAT consideration. Same for all the other comparisons. SB wins is only one of many factors. But it's an important one in my and a lot of others' books.
Now, are willing to tell me that Trent Dilfer or Mark Rypien are one of best QB's in NFL history? One of the best 30 or so?
Roethlisberger is better than Peyton?
Doug Williams is equal to Peyton?
Marino is not one of the top 30 or so QB's?
Brad Johnson is equal to Steve Young?
quote:Wins? No. ERA? Yes. Off the top of my head, I can't think of a better measure of pitching performance than ERA.
As I previously stated, are you the same people that still think that Wins and ERA in baseball are the greatest measure of a good/great pitcher?
Posted on 1/13/14 at 8:07 pm to cubsfan5150
no one is saying that. Super Bowl wins are not the barometer of a successful QB. it's just ONE thing to judge a QB on
Posted on 1/13/14 at 8:07 pm to TH03
OK, do you apply WS rings to position players at all?
Posted on 1/13/14 at 8:09 pm to TH03
Again, explain why SB wins is even relevant.
Posted on 1/13/14 at 8:09 pm to cubsfan5150
are you seriously implying championships mean nothing?
