have an old hp desk top. when I turn it on it ask for \windows\system32\config\system. can attempt to repair this file by starting windows setup using the original setup cd-rom. select 'r' at the first screen to start repair.
anything I can do to restore from here to when I had this? Or, Where would one get this disc? I know, get them out: "porno, you broke, dumbfr" ETC. all true. anyway TIA and have a safe night.

Use an operating system disk from a friend. Can do startup repair with that. Or take it as a sign its time for a new computer, pop out that drive, and install it as a secondafy Hdd. Copy data and move on. The answer is always to buy more stuff baller.

You seriously just need to pay somebody.

Get a new one.
For more helpful advice—if you no longer have the original disk, you probably just want to bring it to a local computer shop. Or maybe you work with someone who is good with computers, and they accept side jobs. You could always do it yourself, but then I guess you wouldn't be asking about it here.

You really should have someone who knows what they're doing handle this. It's not some simple, one click fix. The system hive of the registry has become corrupt and needs to be repaired or restored from backup.
Also, you really need to upgrade from XP.
