Billy Cannon would have hurt both Hill and Collins. If you don't believe me next time Cannon is at a game walk up next to him. Even at 70-whatever- he is an imposing figure. He was the original beast ! And he was faster than both of them !

Collins played behind a much better OL. Big advantage for a RB to have a bunch of stud NFL players blocking for him.

So did Faulk and Mealey... Both were great RBs, but neither of them looked quite like that running behind that line straight out of the gate.

The small sample size hurts Collins. The guy is the best college RB I've seen in person. Kevin Faulk was the best player but Collins was the best RB.

This. I seent Collins with my own eyes... and never anybody else like that. Hill will do better at life... as long as he doesn't suckerpunch anybody else.

Jeremy Hill is a great back. Cecil is the most gifted player I have ever seen in an LSU uniform. I was not around for Billy Cannon. With that being said, this Hill and Fournette backfield could be something incredibly special.

A little on Billy Cannon. Played both ways.1958-59 All-American 1st team. Won Heisman in 1959. No.1 pick for two different leagues..AFL & NFL. Was the reason the two leagues eventually combined to what we have today. He played in 6 title games in the AFL for the Houston Oilers and won two of them. Has Cecil or Hill accomplished any of this. Don't think so! Proof is in the puddin'.End of conversation !!!

Yeah Cecil was def one of a kind and who knows where he could of ended up? Probably one of the best if not the best at LSU. The guy was a mule!! His legs were crazy big and he was fast, ran with an attitude and just wouldn't go down. He did it through out HS too. He played against some very good teams in HS also and was the only player on the offense it seemed. Brought leesville to the championship and I think they won? Can't remember but he really was a very good back. I remember guys hitting his legs and bouncing off of him like they hit a wall. The kid was really good but not the best at LSU. Talent wise yeah prob so...... LF may be able to show us something even better?? But The Diesel was physically ready at 17 years old and dominate in college. Sad! Hope LF is just as good or better if so we are in for a treat.

I didn't know he took the ACT 3 freakn times? That's rediculous! Also had like 3080 years his SR year that's insane. 99 TDs also anyone know if any back has ever had that many yards in 1 year in LA? Has to still be the record?

20 carries for 179 yards, (9.0 YPC)

That's such a small sample size though. Bryce Brown first two starts last year in the NFL were ridiculous

19 178 2 TDs
24 169 2 TDs

After that, he looked like complete garbage. This was what they said was a can't miss back but had trouble just like Collins, and he didn't get to play college ball but one year. Not enough data, and possibly could have flaked out after those couple of game.

Not really. He was average vs the UGA, Alabama, A&M and Ole Miss.

Hill is a great back once he breaks the line of scrimmage but reminds me of Beanie Wells when he was in college. He's got most of the tools though. I honestly think Collins could do it all.

How in the world can you judge how good Hill is in big games on 13, 14, and 16 carries when the only 3 games Collins got, he went for 20, 23, and 27 carries?

Hill started 3 games off the bat as a freshman going over 100 each and these were all big games.

Collins could have looked like straight up doo doo the rest of the season

Its a great compliment to Hill to even be compared to the 'Diesel' imo.

Cecil Collins was the best RB to ever wear the purple and gold.

And with all due respect to past LSU greats, its not even close....

A normal human's brain in Cecil Collins' body would have been the greatest running back that ever lived. Hill has been the best since.

Love Faulk for a lot of reasons. I saw Cecil and Faulk play in person. (Hill too). IMHO Cecil was the better back and it wasn't close. Faulk was better than Hill FWIW.

Thursday, July 11, 2013 was a good day in the life of Cecil Collins. Undoubtedly a welcome change for the former LSU and Miami Dolphins running back who spent more than 13 years in a Florida prison.

Collins' missteps in college and during his brief NFL tenure cost him an otherwise promising football career. Now 36 years old, scoring touchdowns and taking handoffs from the likes of Dan Marino are firmly a part of his past. But soon Collins will enjoy an entirely different satisfaction -- beginning life again as a free man.

The Leesville High School product faced up to five more years in prison, but Louisiana State District Judge Mike Caldwell rejected a prosecution request to revoke Collins' probation, instead setting a $25,000 bond and demanding he stay in Louisiana during the appeal process.

Collins' transgressions more than a decade ago made him a poster child for wasted talent and the object of comparisons to later athletes who found themselves in the news for all the wrong reasons.

n his pre-college days in Leesville, Collins scored 99 touchdowns, rushed for 7,833 yards and was named Louisiana's first 'Mr. Football.'

Next, a dose of negative. A low ACT score put his eligibility into question heading into his freshman year at LSU. Collins retook the test, but a suspicious improvement over his previous score meant he had to retake the test again. On his third attempt, Collins came up one point short and was declared ineligible for his first season in Baton Rouge.

After sitting out a year, Collins was held out of the first game of 1998 for a team rules violation before finally taking the field on September 13, 1997. Over the next four games, Collins rushed for 596 yards and three touchdowns, including a staggering 232 yards against Auburn.

Averaging 8.3 yards per carry and 149 yards per game, Collins quickly became LSU's running back of the future, until a broken leg against Vanderbilt ended his season.

"He was one of the best college running backs I ever saw," said LSU teammate and 13-year New England Patriot Kevin Faulk. "He was just one hell of a player in those four games he played for the Tigers."

quote:

Collins' legal woes spelled the end of his LSU career. A second attempt at collegiate football at Division I-AA McNeese State didn't last long, either. Collins failed a drug screen and was kicked off the team before the season began.

Despite an exceedingly up-and-down college resume, the Miami Dolphins drafted Collins in 1999 with the first pick of the fifth round. He played in eight of Miami's first nine games, rushing for 414 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Billy Cannon was the best running back I ever saw at LSU. Hill is also great, hard to decide, but I would have to still say Cannon.

Having watched both of them play, I distinctly thought after the Iowa game that Hill's performance in that game was very reminiscent of Collins. A combination of speed and power that's rare and impressive.

As for who is better, I'm in the Collins body of work is too brief camp. Everything else is "what could have been". Injury, arrest record, ACT scores, whatever. Peak performance over time is hard and I do not discount it.

Think about this:

Cecil had a severe leg injury, was arrested several times, failed drug tests, was kicked out of two schools, and during all of this time (years) was not training.

He still became a starter in the NFL.

He is the best I've ever seen in a Tiger uniform. He would've been a college football legend to more than LSU fans had he not been a complete moron/psychopath.

My only question is what kind of people want to keep bringing up the most despicable player in school history? I just don't get it...what an embarrassment...
