Cecil was a very exciting back but Hill, who is also exciting, didn't flame out after three games. Therefore, Hill is a superior player. He's still playing and will likely reach his potential, whatever that may be. Collins didn't come close to reaching his potential. Collins' story is a sad tragedy.

Hill averages 7 ypc. If he averages 23 carries per game, like Collins, he averages 161ypg.

161 ypg X 12 games = 1,932 yards over 12 games for the season.

Just saying. Would we still say that Collins is all-time better?

In real life, Hill ran for 1400 yards. Collins ran for under 600. So, don't say I cannot extrapolate Hill's carries out to the same number of carries per game that Collins had.

I watched both play and Collins is by far the better of the two backs. Ne got stronger as the game went on. He was faster then Hill also. I will always remember the game against Auburn when he ran over Takeo Spikes.

Agree

I think most people don't really understand just how great that o-line was for Cecil Collins.

Watch some of his plays... a Rantard could run for 4 ypc with the gaping holes they created.

I think Jeremy Hill would probably have a 9 ypc average with that line.

That said, Collins was a very hard runner... leaned forward... and had a great combination of speed & moves. And nobody really stopped him -- the smaller sample size helps his legacy.

But I'm with you in the sense that I think Jeremy Hill is better. Good points.

IMO, Collins hurt ppl running thru them. He was simply electric with the ball in his hands. It seemed he could take it to the house each time. Felt like he averaged 7-10 yds a carry vs some good teams while playing for a LSU team that was middling at best.

Don't get me wrong, I think JH is excellent back and just pray that he will return next year for THUNDER N LIGHTENING

If I had to pick two LSU RBs I would take Collins and then Faulk. That's how good he was.

Collins game vs Auburn was the one that got him so much attention. Not so much by LSU fans, but the rest of the college football world. That Auburn team was legit.

Ill make this easy...

Collins was the most talented RB to play for LSU that i have ever seen. But that doesnt mean he was the best. Suspended, played 4 games then broke his leg, then was arrested 2 times and kicked off.

I cant sit here and say he was the best RB ever at LSU. Due to the fact he played less than half a season here. But i can say he was the most talented RB that i have ever seen here.

Collins was the perfect running back...over a three game stretch. Hill was consistently great, and played big in critical games. I'll take Hill over Collins every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

Not really. He was average vs the UGA, Alabama, A&M and Ole Miss.

Hill is a great back once he breaks the line of scrimmage but reminds me of Beanie Wells when he was in college. He's got most of the tools though. I honestly think Collins could do it all.

Eyeball test.

That's really all you have with Cecil Collins.

I actually agree that Collins was better.

Go check the stats. He was better than average. His carries were limited for different reasons in every one of the games you highlighted. I guess its convenient for you not to mention that though. I get it.

Hill is one of the best running backs LSU has ever had and has actually done it for two seasons.

Cecil came out of the backfield faster than any RB I've ever seen. It was like he was full speed when he hit the line. But he was messed up in the head and who really knows if he could've done it for a whole year.

Yeah, 27 carries for 232 yards against an Auburn team that won the West and finished ranked 11th. After that, ESPN was talking Heisman. That was one of the loudest games I've ever been too. Still can't believe we lost that one...what an exciting game though!
