Anyone have any issues bringing a king cake or two on a plane? I am going to DC next week and would like to bring one to someone as a thanks for helping me land an interview.

I don't think it is happening in carry on and I doubt you want to check it.

I'd pack them in a box. It will be one of your carry-Ons, but other than that, shouldn't be a problem.

bookmarked because i'd like to know as well.
TSA's site says
so i think it's OK. i can't imagine TSA in NOLA giving you much shite about taking a king cake with you, so long as it's in a box.
TSA's site says
quote:
You can bring pies and cakes through the security checkpoint, but they are subject to additional screening.
While wrapped gifts are not prohibited, if a bag alarms our security officers may have to unwrap a gift to take a closer look inside. We recommend passengers wrap gifts after their flight or ship them ahead of time to avoid the possibility of having to open them during the screening process.

They allowed food through the checks? I've honestly never tried but didn't think they would.

Many thanks. I have brought snacks before but never this. I will fly out if BTR so hopefully they will take it easy on me.
Thanks for the quick replies. Who knows how it will taste but I will give it a shot!

You will be totally fine.
My in-laws carried a king cake through security and brought it on the plane headed back north. The TSA guy watching the X-ray screen asked my mother-in-law if she wanted to know where the "baby" was, or if she just wanted to find it on her own.
Enjoy your trip.

Just make sure it is a plain king cake, not filled. Also make sure it is in some type of box. I heard that last Mardi Gras TSA was confiscating filled king cakes because they said that was a type of liquid. Actually they were probably .just eating them, but why take the chance. Bring a plain.

Plain well that adds a wrinkle. That would suck. Hmm...

My in-laws had a filled one, but that was five years ago.
