If UAB had any donors commit to the money to help build a new stadium and facilities, the BOT would've approved it a long time ago.
I may be crazy, but I would have Josh Niblett at the top of my list if I were in Mackin's position.

UAB should just embrace the dark side and move their home games to Bama Stadium. They are part of the same university system. Such a move might than get the tide folks to OK a new stadium for UAB.

Doubtful.

Nutt could do all kinds if heppin' @ UAB. He could sign all kinds of exSEC thugs. UAB could do worse for sure. Hell he could bring in his tv buddy Zook to run the defense even.

Nope, they had all kinds of support from businesses and donors.

Who put the money up?
You know as much about the UAB program as some guy at Southtown projects.

I'm not saying some person put up 85 million to build a stadium What school has to do that? I'm just saying it had plenty of support financially. All suites were bought out, etc.

Not a single dollar was contributed.
The recipe for this is easy. Mackin needs to hire a coach who will get people excited about the program, then start an organized football facilities capital campaign.
As an alum, I would gladly contribute.

I shouldn't have said it like that. That money has to come from something other than pledges to buy suites. Alabama and Auburn have no problems raising capital, UAB does.
Niblett could do no worse than any retread, has been or never was that UAB could hire.

Niblett would be an awful hire. He gets out coached by Vestavia nearly every year, but is bailed out because he has elite talent. UAB could do 10X better.

It has been said that the Bear's son keeps a lid on UAB. Does not want them to be competition. Joey Jones has done a great job at A So... Mobile

What do you mean who put up "The money." Is that Bear Junior's standard that someone has to come up with $70 million up front? They had pledges and a plan.
The taxpayers of Alabama own both schools; and the Board should run them in the best interest of each school.

No they didn't, and most importantly, they had zero contributions.
UAB athletics frequently operates at a defecit. Requiring actual contributions is in the best interest of the school.
For the record, UA came up in $240 million in real contributions for it's athletic expansions the last decade.

Well it's not like you can raise money for a project that is going to get shut down.
They had people ready.
quote:
UAB booster Jimmy Filler, who played a key role in getting purchase commitments for all 27 luxury suites in the proposed stadium, said he does not believe the board of trustees is committed to a successful UAB football program, calling Tuesday a "sad day for UAB and the city of Birmingham."
quote:
Dr. Luc Frenette, a longtime UAB booster who was one of the 27 individuals or corporations that made the five-year, $100,000 commitment for a suite, said it will be difficult for the football program to reach its potential without building a stadium to use in place of Legion Field.
Most NCAA athletic programs operate a deficit. What is it? Like 20 that don't?

It doesn't get shut down if you have cash. That's why the athletic department needs to start an athletics capital campaign for facilities.
The promise to lease suites for five years is NOT the same thing.
As I said before, I will happily write a check if this happens. I'm not, however, going to sit here and beg for state welfare for UAB athletics.
