As a teacher, I laugh out loud at this article. Curious to know anyone else's thoughts.

In American schools, black students without disabilities were more than three times as likely as whites to be expelled or suspended, according to government civil rights data collection from 2011-2012. Although black students made up 15 percent of students in the data collection, they made up more than a third of students suspended once, 44 percent of those suspended more than once and more than a third of students expelled.

As if that has anything to with the color of their skin

I would love to see Holder try to teach for a week at an inner city school.

Holder said the problem often stems from well intentioned “zero-tolerance” policies that too often inject the criminal justice system into the resolution of problems. Zero-tolerance policies, a tool that became popular in the 1990s, often spell out uniform and swift punishment for offenses such as truancy, smoking or carrying a weapon. Violators can lose classroom time or become saddled with a criminal record.
Well, I agree with this portion. Zero-tolerance policies are a joke.

“A routine school disciplinary infraction should land a student in the principal’s office, not in a police precinct,” Attorney General Eric Holder said.
Agree 100%.

So why doesn't it? Schools were told by lawyers that they could not discipline reasonably without incurring liability. Guess which political party was behind the push.

If schools have a zero-tolerance policy that clearly spells out the discipline for specific acts and if this policy is consistently carried out, there is no discrimination. Maybe some just break the rules more than others.

Well there is a problem with "zero tolerance" policies because they are both innefective and got me truly 'against school' when I was younger.

In many ways public schools are prisons you have to let your kid go to during the day. If they so much as bump into someone in the hallway they can be extrajudiciously punished or their belongings searched.

What a free society

I don't know about Caddo Parish but Bossier has a cop in every HS and Jr. Hi.

If Johnny hauls off and punches Billy in the nose Johnny is not sent to the principal's office. He is cuffed and charged with assault.

As a result of this policy violence in Bossier schools is extremely rare.

Well if they want the number to go down, tell the little gang bangers to quit acting up and follow the rules. If the black kids are the ones violating the policy more than other races, look at them and find the root of that problem. Anyone see the 2 year old diaper wearing thug video, think that kind of upbringing has something to do with it. Address the real problem with the black kids and quit making it into a white vs black thing.

I am sure this has NOTHING to do with their behavior and is only due to racist schools.
