Charlie Strong Salary Increase

Strong was making around $2.3M per year at Louisville after last extension. Why did Texass pay him $5M per year? Why not give him a $1M raise to come to "The Brand".
Just how big a pork chop does Texass have to tie around its neck to get 6th or 7th choice coach to say "okay, I guess I will do it". Is this really what it takes to get a guy to move from a school in a basketball conference to one of the "top" jobs in all of college football?

The only explanation I could think of is that Jurich had vowed to match any number another school offered. So Texas threw that out to call his bluff. In the end, according to Louisville media, Strong didn't give them the option to match this offer. He said he was out. I have no reason to believe that Jurich wouldn't have matched it if given the option.

Why? (besides "because I hate A&M")

Dude string will make 4.5 this year

Who knows what the real number is. I was going by Sports Illustrated. LINK
Dallas Morning news had same numbers but their source could have been SI also.
Point was really that I think Texas had no choice but to make a financial offer large enough so that he couldn't refuse it. They didn't want to have to move on to a 7th or 8th choice for head coach.

Texas honestly got screwed a little bit because ATM overpayed for Sumlin this year with his extension. The five million to sumlin set the market this year for coaches and Texas was victim so they had to pay there guy similar to get him.
Mack was making like 5.45 and Texas had the pay the new guy with no skin on the wall 5 million cause of aggie.
What is more troubling is aggie is paying Sumlin 5 million a year and he hasn't won shite and finished middle of the conference. Sure they had a good two years but that was JFF not sumlin. I think in the next few years aggie figures out just how much they overplayed.

We've got the money to pay a coach as much as we want. Don't worry about it.

What 6 coaches turned down an offer from Texas?
All I heard was ESPN blabbering fools mentioning rumors of offers and denials of offer by a couple coaches.
You say Strong was their 6th choice. How do you know he wasn't first, second, third?

Have you not been paying attention to this coaching search at all? Good lord.

He's paid that much to do better than the rest of the Texass schools
Which he will
Which he will

Doesn't necessarily make it a wise investment. Spending cash just to spend it is kinda knuckleheaded.
