FSU is going to roll. It's gonna be an arse whooping.
I hope so. However, now that I think about it, if there is any team that can beat FSU, it's probably Auburn. They just keep running the ball. They will attempt like 50 to 70 rushes. That's incredible.

Will be rocking my good luck jersey tonight.

The only way Auburn has a chance of winning this game is if they can get consistent pressure with four.

I agree a 100%. They need to rattle Winston. If Winston has time, it's going to be a long night for AU.

yep... it's on both LOS. Auburn has a decent shot at winning the battles up front. Our DL is most important position group on the field, either side.
from a skill player standpoint, with a couple exceptions, FSU has a decided advantage.

I can see our DL getting pushed around by your OL. Imo it's the best OL we have faced this year. But I think the speed of our LBs/DBs will be the difference + the time to prepare for Gus's offense.

I think this will be a weakness. A bunch of great athletes trying to make plays is the kiss of death against AU's offense. Assignment, unselfish defense can beat AU, but I think FSU is too eager to be dominant to do that enough.
However I do think Winston goes for about 350 with at least 3 TDs. Will it be enough?

i think the way FSU's defense is set up -- size up front on the DL to take on blockers, speed/quickness in the back seven to counteract the edge rushes -- is a tough matchup for us.
Mizzou had a great DL, but it was built on speed and penetration... we pushed them around with relative ease. I don't think we can do that tonight.
Pruitt has also seen the offense before at bama... should help.

I don't necessarily believe that to be the "only" way. I just think they need a few stops, but you're right, DL will be a huge part of that.
I believe Auburn will be able to run it on them pretty easily which will keep the ball from FSU offense. FSU will score pretty easily, though, so a few stops will be huge to keep Auburn in control of the game. Easier said than done. I'm really looking forward to the matchup; it interests me more than the Oregon game for sure.

FSU's defense has only had one bad game and that was versus BC. That was four games in with a completely new defensive scheme. I can promise you FSU has focused on playing assignment football for the past month (they've done it all year, minus BC). We'll see if it actually happens.

I do think we'll blitz... a lot. You just can't sit back and let winston throw deep. Clemson game was a great example... CU would get a sack on 2nd down, then let winston complete a 20 yard pass on 3rd and 16... was unbelievable...

Let's be frank. AU's defense is pretty much garbage. We're talking a Clemson type defense. If AU doesn't get pressure in some way on Winston, it's going to be a long night for AU because FSU will just kill the clock.
Imo, there's only two ways AU wins. The first is if FSU turns it over 2-3 times. And the second is if AU can get constant pressure on Winston.

Oh, I agree with all of this don't get me wrong. The point I was trying to make is while the DL will be paramount, a stop anyway we can get it will be huge or, as you said, going to be a long night. I think Ellis will call a pretty good game to confuse and get pressure on Winston. I also know he has been money against the blitz.

i would say +2 or 3 in turnover margin... our offense is not scared to give it up... we are pretty average in turnover margin.

Our running game will be huge. I hope we come out and establish that from the start and not wait to establish that in the 2nd quarter like we have in a lot of games.

Pressuring Winston hasn't worked for teams all year, he is very good against the blitz. I do like the set up of FSU's defense against Auburn's offense
Posted on 1/6/14 at 2:19 pm to SaintCajun
Duke/UF kept it pretty competitive and got some crucial stops by blitzing early on in those games. We're obviously not playing Duke/UF, so hopefully Winston will be able to adjust quickly to AU's scheme.

Not really. I expect our defense to make a few stands wherein they look like a high end defense. I won't be surprised if FSU outscores AU in a high scoring game, but I will be surprised if FSU puts up a huge number in a game that isn't a shootout.
I'm interested to see what Gus has in store. I can't imagine he's going to deviate from what has worked, but scheming for Gus is a nightmare. People continue to act like this zone read with Marshall is his bread and butter as a coach. It isn't, it is just the aspect of the offense we were dominant with given Marshall's short prep time for the season. I expect we'll have something in store with an additional month of prep, although like I said, I can't imagine we're going to go in a totally different direction.
Keys for Auburn, IMO, are to get at least periodic pressure on Winston, avoid fumbles, and make FSU work for yards. I think they'll get yards, but limiting the easy ones will help give our D the opportunity to do what it does (tighten up in key spots) and help keep our shite together long enough to bring it to the wire.
