I suggest the Gardere area.

Treeing walkers win pretty much every field trial there is. They're also the easiest to find and can be had for reasonable prices with champion bloodlines.
That said, there are obviously dogs in plenty breeds that are good coon dogs. A treeing walker is your best bet though.
Get you some of this

I always hunted Redbones but it would be easier to find a good Walker

I love redbones.
If you told me I could have a coon dog that will be a bad SOB and it can be any breed, I'd have either a redbone, redtick, or bluetick.
Walkers are just so much more common.

Use a pit bull chained up for bait...

This or a bluetick. Do not buy one trained up north. I made the mistake and the first night out, that dog went nuts. It was trying to tree dillers. It took some time to break him of that crap.

In the early 90's the UKC world Champion was a Redbone and was from Kentwood. A guy by the name of Philip Gray owned him and several nice Redbones. He was in his 50's then so I don't know if he's still around

Most like walker hounds, but I a, partial to blue ticks, because that is what my family had when I was growing up...
Frankly, any of several breeds will work....but more important is that you get a dog with some good hunters in its ancestry....
