I only caught the second half and he only played 18 minutes so I was wondering what everyone thought of him.

Obviously 11 rebounds stands out which is promising but what else did he show in terms of style of play and his role on this team?

Honestly? I hope he starts. That will let AD play more time at PF where I think he will shine. Ajinca looked slow at times but that's to be expected in his first game. He made some really good plays for rebounds and made his presence felt on defense. I don't remember if he got a block or not, but he definitely affected shots and even caused misses..something we haven't had around the rim this season. Overall, very good first impression!

eta: He even had a couple plays drawn up for him and scored! Was cool to see.

Team actually plays a lot different with a legit big man. So I like the signing so far. Hopefully he can get his offense going.

he was just big. that's (no pun intended) massive for this team. he was blocking people out to make room for others. that's what the guards on the team need.

he will have very little offensive role outside of putbacks, but that's all you need from him. if he averages 5/9 in 20 minutes, that would be a pretty solid pickup.

Manic rebounder. Hustles like Amundson in a body like AD. Doesn't have butterfingers like Steamer. Very long and uses it well. Gets easy putbacks plus dunks and can accept passes like he's an NBA player. If this is his median performance avg. the Pels are in great shape

a few block attempts that caused ugly shots. that stuff doesn't show up in the books but they had an effect. for the first time in forever i've seen a big man stay on his guys hip on the defensive end. he played the space outwards but under the rim he was fully attached to his offender. players don't box out much anymore like AA did tonight. . once he gets comfortable and gains more confidence, he may be a true force. smoove can hit the trading block now

no, his role should be energy off the bench. he's very good at that.

Watched him with the Mavs. The guy really enjoys bricking 18 footers. He thinks he's Dirk or Aldridge, but he doesn't make those shots.

Seems like this could be the start of something good. Not just with Ajinca but everyone healthy and add him to the mix.

I have no reason to be optimistic but as some point we have to start playing better (hopefully).

If the Pelicans get a good enough player out the trade, I'm all for trading him.

The best thing for AD and this team is to just let AD play center, with Ryno, Morrow, Gordon, and Jrue. That should be the main lineup, with Roberts, Tyreke, and Smith off the bench. 8 man rotation, light up the scoreboard.

He walked in and already looked like the best center on the roster the first game

I know that isn't really saying much, but hey

Apparently he's improved his game. Maybe that means he takes smarter shots now. Remains to be seen.

I think we should at least try Davis at starting center and see how it looks, but you lost me at the Morrow starting at SF part

Dude can't guard 2s, he will just get murder by 3s

I wouldn't assume that just yet. One of his strength in the euroleague was his jumpshot so it wouldn't surprise me to see Williams incorporate Ajinca into the pick and pop or allow him to isolate down low.

The only negative I saw out of Ajinca was he got into foul trouble really early. I think he got his 5th foul after playing for around 14 or 15 minutes. One of them was on a 3 point attempt. Outside of that I thought he performed his role much better than I anticipated. Especially since he just joined the team.

Disagree. A lineup like that can work in spurts but definitely not as the main one if we want to contend. Too little defense.

Personally I think AD is better suited at PF but that also remains to be seen. He definitely excels at both so a good rotation will definitely work. But your high firepower lineup would get steamrolled at times.
