This is about all there is to it. Would you prefer to work in a high-pressure work environment with pressure to win a BCS game every year, with talk about you being on "the hot seat"? Or a decent, rising football program and be a part of a great growth of a football program.

His child with special needs is not something that is a factor anymore. He recovered and has already left for college. He just always wanted the Washington job and everything lined up right for him to take it.

It's the younger son that had brain/spinal cancer. He is about to start high school.

Ah, my bad. He did fully recover though, so it wasn't seen as an issue anymore.

His older son Jack is now in college. His younger son Sam, whose health issues as a small boy helped keep Petersen in Boise, not only fully recovered, but will start high school next year. It's a good time to make the transition.

UW most likely gave him more control which is why he choose them over all the others through the years

Correct me if I am wrong, but Haden interviewed Peterson and decided to go another direction.

According to an article I read, Peterson made it clear he was interested.

It wasn't Peterson's decision not to go to USC.

1. Seattle >>>>>>>>>>>> Los Angeles
2. Closer to Boise, better for his family
3. Potential to build a perennial PAC12 power without the pressure and media focus at USC

USC is no longer the job it once was. The location of the school sucks, the fans are a bunch of idiots who expect to be as good as they were under Carroll and it's not going to be fun having to recruit against Jim Mora Jr. Sark had his work cut out for him that's for sure

You do realize football existed at Usc before Pete Carroll, right?

You do realize that Pete Carroll was also far from the first choice for SC as well? They just hit the jackpot. SC was great back in the Robinson era but really from the 80's until Carroll was hired it was a shadow of its former self. Won some Pac 10 Titles and had a few decent seasons but for the most part was nothing great. When the Raiders moved to LA it really took the wind out of SC and after they moved back it took until Carroll for them to get their mojo back.

If another NFL team moves or starts up in LA SC will be screwed. BTW, I like SC. I was actually accepted there and it was my 2nd Choice after A&M but I didn't want to move to Cali.

Much less media pressure, closer geographically to where he's been and familiar recruiting haunts, and a very good chance to win with huge resources.

Yeah, Pete all but begged for the job and only got it after several others turned it down.

Agree 100%. They averaged 57,000 fans a game in 1999 and 2000. They will be back at that level when the NFL returns to LA. That is a pro sports town.

I believe it was Bruce Feldman that said Haden did not feel Petersen's program vision was a fit for USC and he passed.

He knows he isn't as good of a coach as the media makes him out to be. He can probably win 7-8 games per year in Washington to keep his job, but he'd never return USC to the promised land.

He withdrew his name from the search like a week before he went to Washington
