Pelini's Safety Blitz - How Come We Stopped Using It?

I love me some FS blitz and we used this quite effectively with LaRon and Chad Jones while Pelini was DC (recall how LaRon crushed Croyle in '05, the Zona QB in '06, JPW in '06, and Chad caused a fumble vs Bama in '07).
Does Chief just not have this shot in his bag or is there some other reason we no longer try it? I know LaRon was an incredible athlete (sub 4.4 40) but don't we have guys as fast as Chad?
I guess nowadays, all of LaRon's would probably get a non-football related penalty.

Because Pelini sounds like an Italian dish

Pelini? Are you kidding?
The most effective blitz was with Chief when he had NFL players on the roster, specifically wen Ron Brooks and TM7 came off the corner.
THAT is one of the big things we lacked in 2013, as Chief thought Micah Eugene had the speed to scare QB's, but he and the others chosen to blitz were no where close to being fast enough.
SPEED and player selection. That is the difference.

That was the nickel back blitzing. We literally do that all of the time.

D. Thomas was very effective late in the year blitzing off the edge. I look for him to make some plays next year out of that rover/nickel back position.

I thought Jalen Mills and Dwayne Thomas did an excellent job when they were allowed to blitz ala Brooks/Mathieu. Mills as I've said many times is a great nickel back type blitzer. Give him very few responsibilities and he usually excels.

TM7 wasn't the fastest guy we had but he seemed to be able to get to the QB QUICK! That guy had was a terror to opposing QBs. You know Geno Smith hated playing against him!

A safety blitz sealed the Arkie game.

I think your biggest problem here is, you don't recognize a "safety blitz" unless something really big and splashy happens because of it.
For example, Chavis blitzed Eric Reid many times during his career here, many of them "run" type blitzes. I could give you many examples but your time would be better spent elevating your football acumen.

The answer to this is much simpler than any that has been given.
We stopped using "Pelini's Safety Blitz" when Pelini left. Now we use Chief's safety blitz.

Haven't reviewed all the instances I listed but the '06 blitz vs Bama LaRon was at FS (about 12 yds off the line) when the ball was snapped. He wasn't the nickel back.

I cannot remember a time this year where we blitzed a safety. We prefer to bring heat from the edge with the nickel rather than up the A or B gap with the safety.
Different coaches; different styles.

Chavis uses his safeties in blizting off the edge very well. But I don't recall Reid, Loston, Taylor blitzing like LaRon did while Pelini was DC.
Stats seem to corroborate this.

Chavis brings DB pressure from the inside CBs in the mustang mostly. safety blitzing isn't really his thing. I kinda wish he would mix it up a bit.
thing with mostly bringing heat from the CBs is at times it leaves our safeties manned up on WRs (or in a zone look where they're essentially manned up). and you need some Brandon Taylor type safeties to cover in those instances.
on the plus side, CBs should be a little faster/ quicker getting a pass rush, and they should be able to blitz without tipping their hand more easily.

No, the blitzes referred to in the OP are cover 0 blitzes from the free safety.
Miles wasn't ever a fan of the cover 0 blitzes, one of the reasons why the 08 year was so bad, as soon as Pelini left, Miles had Malveto take all the cover 0 blitzes out. Basically all we did that year was run zone blitzes and it became very predictable.

What I thought as well; just wondering why. Scheme? Personnel?

Those guys were special. You didn't see him doing this with the backups.
