So Bama upped the ante for a coach that there was no chance of leaving.

Generous bastards.

does not affect my life one way or the other, but you have to admit the CC board which is open to all fans had a large amount of LSU fans starting the threads and following planes leaving Tuscaloosa and leaving Austin or flying into Austin. I thought i was reading the killing of JFK thing as the flying black helicopters were all over the place.

I have stated on the Bama board that I am very impressed with KS and that should NS retire or leave that the program will continue as KS seems to be as anal as NS and has the defensive mind set you need to win in the SEC.

Let me see if I have this correct:

1) Mack Brown appears to be leaving as reported by numerous accounts.

2) Saban is under consideration to replace Brown.

3) Saban is presented with a new contract by Alabama.

4) Saban ignores the new Alabama contract for a week or more.

5) Word leaks out from Texas that Brown is likely to be given one more year.

6) Saban immediately agrees to contract that has been on his desk for a week.

Does that sound like Saban REALLY wanted to stay in Tuscaloosa??? Hmmmmmm????

It sounds like football business strategy. My guess:
1. Texas made an offer to Saban. We may never know the terms of the offer.
2. Saban apparently did not like the terms well enough to accept the offer and decided to stay at Bama with a nice fat raise.
3. Texas responded by retaining Brown.

Maybe I'm naive but it seems pretty simple to me. What was not simple was the balance of considerations that Saban weighed in making his decision, thus the week of deliberation before agreeing to the new contract with Alabama.

Saban's issues with telling the truth are not isolated to "one single incident 7 years ago". Ask Michigan State about that.

so that I understand this. Every time a coach leaves a high profile job he has mislead or lied to someone. This stuff happens in the real world of business all the time so I am not sure what your point is. But at Alabama he has always stated this is his final stop until he retires and so far he has kept his word.

Otherwise known as what's done regarding every single major job every year on the coaching changes board. Its sole purpose is to provide a place to post rumors, no matter how outlandish. This is the first year that some who claim to have never been worried have become so angry about people joking around on the internet.

why would I cry? you LSU fans can't stop kicking a dead horse. As a Bama fan the last 7 years have been pretty glorious. We have a coach who is so well thought of that his name is mentioned on every short list of college and NFL jobs that come open. He is still the Bama coach. and should he leave the school will get another good coach. Unlike the clusterfricks we had prior to NS, the program is on solid ground.

I am not an insider so I don't know what happened but I do understand that the AD had been talking to NS prior to the AU game about a contract extension.

That's just false. The idea that he's seriously considered for most NFL jobs is laughable.

Just think what Saban's raise might have been if he hadn't blown the Auburn game.
